War Memorial Project
In 2014, the centenary of the beginning of World War 1 was commemorated across Europe. Although the names of soldiers are marked on War Memorials, the lives and stories behind those who died are often lost in time. As a result, I began the task of compiling those biographies from official documents, newspapers and information from families. The “Peterculter War Memorial Book” was completed in time for the start of national commemorations in November 2014. Later, the same task was completed for the soldiers named on the Maryculter War Memorial.
I have also worked extensively on Rolls of Honour for soldiers of Aberdeen Grammar, Queen’s Cross Church, Melville Church and Holburn West Church.
You may be aware of relatives who fought in WW1 or WW2- the Heritage-Hound is able to guide your towards records which may tell you more about their lives.
