50 + WALKING GROUP 2003-2004 has been an exceptionally good year for the Culter 50 + Walking Group. We have been very lucky with the weather, last year being particularly warm, mostly dry and sunny. We have obviously picked the best Thursdays for our walks. Trying to vary walks, we travel throughout the North East both inland and coastal routes, visiting old favourites such as Glentanar Estate, Ballochbuie Forest, Fasque, Seven Bridges and Forvie Sands. We like to include various new walks and those we may have neglected over the years. As one of the recent members most of the walks have been a very pleasant revelation to me. A particular favourite of mine and one of which our members are fond is Ballochbuie Forest near the Invercauld Estate. Viewing the waterfall can be quite intoxicating and as we descend the hill the scenery along the Dee valley is breathtaking especially on a clear sunny day. This is when we appreciate the beautiful countryside that surrounds us and which we often take so much for granted. During the year we have welcomed a few new members, one of whom, Ian, has taken on the responsibility for driving the minibus, a task which Ann Wakefield thankfully did for many years. We are very grateful to him taking on this very essential job. Another member we owe appreciation and thanks to is Betty who took excellent care of Culter walkers for the past three years. She has helped organise the walks and other activities such as the pantomime trip to His Majesty's Theatre last December, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who went. Anyone who enjoys gentle exercise, fresh air, good company, scintillating conversation and would like to join us, please phone Kate Thomson. Regards, Kate |
