If you are a former Culter Mill worker, you will perhaps
remember this red-covered volume. This book was kept at the Lodge,
at the entrance to the Culter Paper Works, and was signed by workers
who took up employment at the mill.
"Having read the rules of The Culter Paper Mills Paper Coy. Ltd. I hereby agree to abide by them as the contract of employment between the said company and me. 23/3/13". |
The
volume charts the employment of men, women and children through the First
and Second World Wars until the final closure of the mill on 13th February
1981.
Through its' pages it is possible to follow the family links of nearly 100 years of employees at the Mill. The final page states: This book contains 4717 names. The Lodge book has now been indexed by surname so you can find entries easily.
