SHELL KICKSTARTS ROTARY’S KIDS OUT” DAY WITH DONATION

THE fund-raising efforts for an annual charitable event for children in Aberdeenshire have received a boost in the form of a donation of £350 from Shell UK .

The annual “Kids Out” day, organised by local Rotarians, is a national initiative that gives handicapped and disadvantaged children a chance to enjoy a fun-filled day completely free of charge.

The Aberdeenshire “Kids Out” will be held at the Scottish Agricultural College , Craibstone, on 11th June 2003 when almost 400 children from across the region will converge for a day of fun and games with a wide range of activities, including face painting, pony rides, bouncy castles and Thomas the Tank engine rides.

Henk Jaap Kloosterman, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside and employee of Shell UK says: “Shell is running the “Shell Employee Action” scheme which promotes volunteering and community involvement among employees, pensioners and their respective spouses. Thanks to the scheme, KidsOut can now look forward to letting more children to take part in the Aberdeen KidsOut day”. Margaretha Simpson, Community Relations at Shell further added: “It is fantastic that so many of our people get involved with their local communities by giving up their own time to lend a helping hand, and it makes good sense for Shell to support voluntary enterprise in this way. The benefits are reaped by everyone concerned - Shell, its staff and the wide community”.

The Rotary Clubs of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire have been organising this annual event since 1994 and almost 200 members wifi give up their day to hel look after the children and run th activities. In addition to Shell’s donation each Rotary Club will put £400 toward this cause. Businesses and individuals wishing to donate funds towards this event should contact Dennis Davidson on 01224-876582.
