Scorers: - Culter, K.
Christie 3, Cameron 46, 82, McRitchie 46, 55. Maud, Coutts 15
Culter climbed to
the top of the Super League with a comprehensive and stylish second half
performance. The introduction of Roddy Cameron at the break paid dividends
as he completely changed the pattern of the game following a poor first half
performance from the home side.
Culter started
positively and Craik should have scored when he cut inside with 90 seconds
on the clock. The opener was not long in coming when Ord found McRitchie in
the box and he squared the ball for K. CHRISTIE who hammered home from close
range. Culter continued to press forward when K. Christie found Craik with a
great ball but the wide man fired past. Rattray, up for a corner, almost
added the second when he chested down in the area before sending in a
grounder which Williams held easily. In almost their first attack Maud
equalised when an Usher shot was saved by Pirie but COUTTS followed up to
ram the ball home. Moments later Culter were denied a penalty when McRitchie
was bundled off the ball on the line following good work from Ord. Maud had
a strong appeal turned down moments later when Willox went down in the area
but referee Burrows waved play on. The visitors were gradually getting into
the game and Pirie had to bring out a first class save from Robertson midway
through the half. Pirie came to the rescue a few minutes later when he saved
a blistering Will drive. At the other end K. Christie and Craik combined to
let in Davidson but he pulled his shot wide. On the stroke of half time K.
Christie had a good opportunity but blazed the ball well over.
Manager Bobby Gray
sent on Cameron for Smith at the start of the second half and the impact was
immediate. McRitchie found CAMERON in space and he buried the ball with his
first touch of the match. Culter appeared to be on easy street just after
the restart when a long Pirie clearance was controlled by McRITCHIE who
deftly lobbed the ball over the advancing Williams for a great goal. Culter
were rampant now and Summers had to react quickly to turn a smart McRitchie
cross behind for a corner. Maud did try to get back into it but Pirie saved
easily from an Usher attempt. Cameron was on song and almost added his
second with a flashing first time volley which sizzled just over. Culter
went got number four in the 55th minute when Cameron went on a run down the
left before sending in an inch perfect cross for McRITCHIE who rose to
bullet a wonderful header home. Culter then sent on Fraser and Greig for
Cowell and Thain with the game won. Late in the game CAMERON added his
second when he picked up on a grand ball from Ord to steer the ball home
with glee. Fraser almost added the sixth in stoppage time with a crisp drive
from a Cameron lay off but this time Williams pulled off a fine stop.
