In a repeat of last week’s game Culter again suffered a 2— 1 defeat to Sunnybank.
In a first half not worth writing about, Wilson and Mcintosh of Culter and Bartlet and Adams of Sunnybank ended up in the refere&s book. Culter had a claim for a penalty in the 30th minute when Ogboke went down easily in the box but the referee rightly played on. Minutes later the home team’s best spell of passing led to Youngson being fouled 25 yards out. Smith’s effort, however. was easily saved by Sweeney. Bartiet sent a curling shot wide of the upright at the other end as the fans were glad to hear the half time whistle. Half Time: 0 — 0.
The second half continued like the first with McAllister and Gordon both having efforts that flew over the bar. McKimmie had a diving header that cleared the crossbar before the deadlock was broken in the 68th minute. Craigie sent a big punt high into the box which was punched away by Mcintosh only as far as William STEEL who smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the box. Three minutes later the tie was over when Craigie was allowed to advance into the home half before whipping in an inviting cross for Jim FETTES to head home from close range. Mcintosh made a great save to deny a powerful Craigie free kick before Youngson forced Sweeney into making a decent save. With the 45 minutes nearly up Fettes missed the sitter of the match. Jeffrey sent over a deep cross to Gordon whose header across goal found Fettes. The midfielder somehow managed to send his header over the bar from only yards out with the open goal at his mercy.. Culter had some hope in the 9l minute when the away defence failed to clear their lines and George McBAIN nipped in to clip the ball over Sweeney but Sunnybank easily held out to advance into the semi final

March Misery. I regret to report the death of Alex Mair on Friday 19 March 2010. Alex was one of our leading sweepstake ticket sellers in Culter Mills when I started as Secretary/Treasurer on 27 March 1961 I still call at their same house in Hillview Road to collect their Lottery tickets plus Culter FC Press cuttings which Jean keeps for me. Alex retired from Culter Mills in 1980 after 43 1/2 years service. Alex was wished a long and happy retirement which, he said, would be spent mostly on his hobby gardening and fortunately all of this came true. Our condolences go to his widow Jean, daughter Eileen and her family on their sad loss.
