Downfield Delay. In spite of the improvement in the weather our 2nd Round
GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup Tie due against Downfield at Downfield Park,
Dundee on Saturday 13 February 2010 was disappointingly postponed. The Downfield
pitch was frozen and it failed the Referee’s morning inspection. This brings our
soccer-less Saturdays into double figures — 8 postponements and 2 free dates,
plus of course the abandoned game against FC Stoneywood, creating a hefty
backlog.
10 Years Ago. On Saturday 12 February 2000 Culter lost 2-1 to Formartine United
in the 2 Round of the Camstruction Cup at Crombie Park. The match was officiated
by Referee G Ross and our scorer was Stuart Gibb who equalised from the penalty
spot to make it 1-1 at the interval. Our Goalkeeper Brian Troup had earlier
pulled off an outstanding save to stop a W Mackay penalty. Formartine’s winner
was a deflection when N Reid’s attempt spun off Marc Small into the net much to
Troup’s astonishment. Culter were left rueing many missed chances. Culter’s team
was:Troup; Valentine, Johnston, Small, Chalmers, Marr, Gibb, Smith, Wyness, DD
Galbraith, Cameron: Substitutes: Fraser. Lawrence. Bain, Campbell, Reid.

Only two minutes remained of our Ben Accord Glass Premier Division match on
Saturday 10 February 1990 when Stonehaven struck to stop our splendid sequence
of success. Culter had gone 20 games without defeat in local circles but came
unstuck on the 2i occasion. It was a cold and wet afternoon at Glenury Park with
Culter wearing a smart new playing strip, courtesy of Cooters Lounge. After a
goalless first half Stonehaven opened the scoring in 55 minutes then Paul
Thomson. equalised from the penalty spot in the 67th minute. Stonehaven’s
winning goal came in the 88th minute. The Referee was B Christie and his
Linesmen were I Skene and G Simpson. Culter lined up as follows.R Seivwright: M
Craigmile. A Johnstone: S Rose. E Shearer. L Mason; M Kennedy. C Tweedie, B
Burnett, P Thomson, A Walker; Substitutes: C Marnoch and K Kennedy
It was announced earlier that week that Alan Walker was the Premier Division
Player of the Month.
30 Years Ago. On Saturday 9 February 1980 Culter played a 6 Round
Scottish Amateur Cup Tie at Crombie Park. Culter beat Edinburgh side Glenmore
2-0 through goals from Ronnie Smith (off a Millar Kennedy cross) and Steven
Munson (Doug Jamieson pushed the ball to Millar Kennedy whose pass was neatly
netted by Steven in 83 minutes). The Referee was Brian Ahern, Bucksburn and his
Linesmen were R A lmrie and J Wilson. Culter’s side was:-
Keith Davidson; Frank Gauld, Cammy Lawrence; Bob Westland (Captain), Gordon
Thomson, Peter Lonamoor; Millar Kennedy. Steven Munson. Ronnie Smith, Graham
Scott. Kevin Garden; Substitutes: Doug Jamieson and John Thomson
Keith Davidson earned the Press he
dlines after the game —
“performed heroics in goal”. Alex Irvine was Team Manager. A few days after the
match Graham Scott was operated on for appendicitis.
