Saturday 23 January 2010. In their first game since the 5th December,
Culter fielded new signing Allan Douglas at centre half. Culter will now face an
away trip to Downfield of Dundee after coming back from a goal down to easily
beat a Dyce team that finished the game with only 8 players. In a match that was
far from dirty the Referee saw fit to show 3 red and 4 yellow cards to the away
team.
A Mountford header and a Youngson free kick were easily held by Buckley as
Culter went looking for an early advantage. At the other end Farquhar was called
into action to punch away a Cummings goal bound header. Dyce took the lead in 17
minutes when LYON’s shot from 10 yards beat Farquhar at his near post. Culter
were level 5 minutes later when McBain made a surging run into the box and cut
the ball perfectly to Chris MOUNTFORD to send the ball home from close range.
McKimmie should have scored minutes later after he beat half the away team only
to see his well struck shot saved by Buckley. With 30 minutes gone Wilson’s long
ball found McBain whose sweeping cross found Mountford only to see the striker’s
effort just dear the bar. Half Time: 1 — 1.
Wilson had a header cleared off the line by Webster almost from the restart.
Douglas then warmed the away keeper’s hands with a powerful 30 yarder.
Youngson’s shot from the widest of angles came back off the inside of the post
before Wilson sent a screamer of a shot just high and wide of the target. Dyce
were reduced to 10 men on the 55 minutes mark when Murray was shown a straight
red for kicking out. Seconds later Buckley had the save of the game when he
turned Mountford’s powerful drive onto the bar and away to safety. In 63
minutes, however, Chris MOUNTFORD was not to be denied and daimed his second by
tapping home McBain’s low cross from close range In a rare attack Lyon was
through on goal only to be denied by a last ditch tackle from McBain. Ogboke
should have done better than hit the corner flag when through on goal and
another Buckley save denied Mountford his third. Neish headed over a Lyon corner
but in 84 minutes out of nothing Dyce were reduced to 8 men when both Esson and
Neish were shown red cards for speaking out of turn! Chris “Teddy” MOUNTFORD
completed his hat trick when he turned home Robertson’s low cross in 88 minutes
to complete the scoring.

Spell Stopped. Yesterday’s win against Dyce Juniors stopped their spell
of success at Crombie Park. It was the first time we have beaten them at Culter
since we won a Grill League Cup Tie 3-0 on 8 August 2006. Since then their
Superleague results at Crombie Park have been 5-1 on 26 August 2006, 1-1 on 6
May 2008, 4-1 on 14 March 2009 and 2-1 on 7 November 2009 whilst they also won a
3 Round Regional Cup Tie 4-2 on 26 April 2008. Oddly enough in the same period
we are undefeated at Ian Mair Park, Dyce, with the Superleague results there 2-0
on 6 January 2007, 2-2 on 15 December 2007 and 3-0 on 26 May 2009.

Memories Mistake. On my trip down Memory Lane last week I was 10 years
out in my first item! The game against Formartine United was only 5 years ago
and not 15. The game was played on Saturday 15 January 2005 and not 1995. Thanks
to Murray Rattray for pointing out my error.
