Cancellations Continue. In spite of the thaw it proved insufficient to permit the go ahead of our 1st Round GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup Tie against Dyce Juniors on Saturday 16 January 2010. This is the 4th time the Dyce game has been postponed and as previously stated this tie remains priority and in the event of postponements will continue as next fixture until completed. So it is another trip down Memory Lane!

15 Years Ago. Culter lost ground in the title race going down to Formartine United at Crombie Park on Saturday 15 January 1995 by the only goal of the game, a last gasp winner. The Deesiders gave a home debut to new goalkeeper Martin Pine who came on for the injured Ivor Pine. Our deputy goalkeeper Russell Mime had suffered a bad leg break the week before when the qame against Glentanar at Woodside Sports Complex was abandoned with Culter trailing 3—0. A substitute in the Formartine game was another newcomer, Alain Ndomo Edene who joined us from Cameroons, West Africa but he was not called on. The Referee was C Potten and our team was:M Pine; Thain, Allan, Collie, Rattray, Adam, Davidson, Stewart, Cameron, Christie, Craik; Substitutes: McRitchie, Fraser, Edene, Thow, Grant.

25 Years Ago. At cold Crombie Park with the frozen surface making play treacherous Culter beat Castle Rovers 3—1 in the 1st Round of the Chattan Rovers Cup on Saturday 19 January 1985. My Bulletin headline was “Successful Skate”. After a goal-less l half our opponents went ahead two minutes from the restart. Gus Johnstone equalised three minutes later by lobbing the ball into the far corner of the net from the touchline. Raymond Clark put us ahead and Stuart Davidson clinched our place in the next round. The Referee was N R Stuart, Alford, and our line up was:A Thain; P Irvine, M Milne; J Sutherland, P George, A Skinner; S Davidson, I Massie, R Clark, I Smith, A Johnstone; Substitutes: R Kennedy and A Smith.

35 Years Ago. On Saturday 18 January 1975 Culter drew 2—2 with Nicoll’s Xl at Crombie Park in the 1st Round of the Chattan Rovers Cup. The Referee was Alex Fraser and our scorers were Doug Jamieson and Ronnie Smith. Alex Fraser was the remarkable man who was first deaf and dumb Referee on the SJFA’s official list. He was also Disabled Scot of the Year in 1972. A minute’s silence was observed prior to the game as a tribute to our senior committee member Peter J Stuart who died on Wednesday 8 January 1975. Pat was a staunch supporter and a loyal committee member of Culter Football Club for over half a century. Following in his footsteps are our Honorary Vice Presidents Jack Davidson, his son-in-law, and Margaret Davidson, his granddaughter, and her twin Stuart, former player and committee member. Our team that day was:H Steel; G Galashan, R Beattie; G Buist, A Irvine (Captain), P George; D Jamieson, P Longmoor, R Smith, D Gordon, A Watt; Substitutes: G Gauld and R Lovie.

Culter won the replay 5 — 0 and went on to reach the Final of the Chattan Rovers Cup but lost 2 — 0 to Kemnay at Maryculter.
