Snow Stoppage

Saturday 19 December 2009. It came as no surprise when it was announced that our 1st Round GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup Tie against Dyce Juniors due to be played at Crombie Park on Saturday 19 December 2009 was once again postponed. This time it was due to our snow covered pitch. This tie has priority and in the event of postponements will continue a next fixture until completed.

25 Years Ago. Culter beat Oxy Sporting Club, Division IV leaders, 3 — I at Clayrnore Drive, Bridge of Don in the 2 Round of the North of Scotland Cup on Saturday 15 December 1984. Culter’s scorers were John Gray, Stuart Davidson and Jim Sutherland whilst Oxy’s consolation goal came in the last minute through Graham Kelman. The Referee was Larry Officer! Our team was:-
A Thain; P Irvine, A Johnstone; J Sutherland, P George, I Smith; S Davidson, A Smith, H Reid, J Gray, G Heifren; Substitutes: R Clark and M Milne.

30 Years Ago. On a cold frosty afternoon Culter beat Kern nay 2— 1 at Kemnay in an Amateur League DMsion 1 game on Saturday 22 December 1979. Our scorer was Ronnie Smith who netted both goals. In between “Santa” Smith’s goals Graham Stephen scored Kemnay’s goal from the penalty spot. Kemnay nearly equa!ised in injury time but Keith Davidson saved the day by turning the try over the crossbar. George A Rennie officiated and our line-up was:-
K Davidson; F Gauld, C Lawrence; R Westland (Captain), G Thomson, P Longmoor; S Munson, D Jamieson, R Smith, G Scott, K Garden; Subs: G Stuart and J Thomson.

40 Years Ago. On l3 December 1969 Culter defeated league leaders Monyrnusk 4—2 in a Division II game at Crombie Park. Our win narrowed the gap at the top of the table. Culter were two goals down when Abbie Ritchie was taken off through injury with a cut eye from a clash of heads. Substitute George Ritchie came on and played a very good game. An Allan Rae goal brought the score to 1 — 2 at half time. Culter’s 2nd half pressure produced an excellent headed equaliser from Larry Barclay, a Derek Nico! shot which hit the post for Eric Duncan to head the ball home from the rebound, plus a late goal from John Low which secured Culter’s win. Two former players were in the Monymusk team — Charlie Morrison and innes Pine.

Pricey Postcards. Gus Johnstone came across an interesting item on eBay last month. Postcards of the Culter FC Clubhouse were on sale. There were two available at £6 each plus £1 postage. The postcards were published by J Arthur Dixon and I think they were produced in 1981. These postcards were stocked by the late John Massie in his shop John’s Newsagency in North Deeside Road, Culter — located where the Lloyds TSB is now. At the time his shop was closing John very kindly donated a boxful of these postcards to Culter FC. The box still contains over 1900 of them — a valuable boxful at the eBay price!
