Superleague: Culter I Dyce 2 Half Time 0-2 (at Crombie Park, Culter
Scorers: Culter: Ogboke 66 (penalty) Dyce: Cunningham 14, Thoirs 35.
Saturday 7 November 2009. Despite a great second half revival Culter
failed to take anything from this league game. Dyce were the superior side in
the first period but were on the rack for most of the second half.
Dyce stepped up the pace early on and Allan Smith did well to head a decent
Steve Watson cross away before the Deesiders had their first attack of the game
when Martin Shand combined with Ryan Stott but his parting effort was well saved
by Tony Buckley. A few minutes later Dyce went in front when Craig Cunningham
sneaked into the box unattended and he bulleted a magnificent header past the
bemused John Farquhar. Minutes later Dyce almost extended their lead when the
recalled John Farquhar missed a long ball but the attempt went harmlessly out
for a goal kick with Kevin Neish lurking. Culter then staged a mini rally when
Rich Wyness tried his luck from distance but his half volley dipped just over
Kevin Neish had a go from 20 metres but the Culter ‘keeper saved well before
Martin Shand broke free for the home side but Tony Buckley raced from his charge
to deny the hard working front man. Culter were dealt a blow on the half hour
mark when Ryan Stott had to be replaced following an eye injury and the
versatile Andy Sim came on to take his place. The Donsiders nearly went further
ahead but Martin Cooper put in an amazing last gasp tackle to thwart Stuart
Reid. With 35 minutes gone Culter looked down and out when, with the home
defence all at sea, Alex Thoirs was left in acres of space and netted with
aplomb. Half Time: 0—2.
Culter came out for the second half with all guns blazing and Kevin Garioch went
narrowly wide with a stinging shot before Rich Wyness headed over from a Dod
McBain corner. This was to be his last piece of action as the fit again Chris
Ogboke took over from him but it was a great Dod McBain run and cross that went
abegging. Kevin Garioch went close again soon after following a pass from
Andy Sim. Culter then sent on Adam Wilson for Greg Donald but Chris Ogboke might
have done better than hit the side netting from deep inside the area. The
Deesiders were thrown a lifeline when Neil Murray was red carded for an
agricultural challenge on Chris Ogboke and the talismanic striker picked himself
up and thrashed a perfect penalty past the Dyce goalie. it was alt Culter at
this stage with Dyce a shadow of their first half performance and they looked to
have paid the penalty but Martin Shand just couldn't connect with a Colin Craik
pass. Dod McBain then scampered down the right and with Martin Shand looking
favourite to net he was bundled off the ball but to the astonishment of all
Referee Bryan Braidwood waved play on. In the dying minutes Culter were denied
an equaliser when Martin Cooper headed against the base of the post with Tony
Buckley beaten.
