Saturday 17 October 2009. Culter crashed out of the Grill Cup in a bemusing game at Crombie Park. The home side shot themselves in the foot early on when Greg Donald was sent for an early shower for deliberate hand ball whilst Referee Veitch should have sent off the Bank keeper for a shocking challenge on Chris Ogboke. This having been said the Deesiders dominated play for long periods and should feel a little aggrieved at the result.

Bank had some early pressure and ft was rewarded when Greg Donald inexplicably handled a goalbound effort on the ilne. He was immediately sent packing and Derek Craigie scored from the spot. A minute later the visitors almost went two up but Jamie McAllister headed wide from a deep Dave Greig cross. Ten men Culter were up against it at this stage and fell further behind when Derek Craigie found the unmarked WIllIe Steer who headed home from Close range. ‘Bank then seemed to sit back and Culter started to get back into the game and Allan Youngson tried his luck with a free kick which sped over the wall but went straight to Lee Sweeney in the Bank goal. The Deesiders were right back in it in the 15 minute when a good Ryan Stott free kick was poweruHv headed home by Allan Smith. Minutes ater Chris Ogboke was clean through but drifted just offside before an Allan Smith free kick thundered off the wall and away to safety. ‘Bank should have lost their goalkeeper when he tried to cut Chns Ogboke n haif outside the area but astonishingly he was only shown a yellow card for the assault. Culter were made to pay soon after when Gary Clark and Dave Greig combined to set up Derek Craigie who headed in from close range. it was all over bar the shouting just before half time when Nicky Gordon was left unmarked and he steered the ball into the empty net. Half Time 1—4.

Culter sent on Hugh Robertson for Ryan Stott at the start of the second period but it was the busy Andy Sim
who almost pulled one back following a darting run but his shot just edged wide. Wyness replaced Chs Ogboke as Culter fought hard to get back into it and they were almost rewarded when an Allan Youngson inswinging corner was booted off the line by a Bank defender. THe home side were thrown a slight lifeline in the 55th minute when Allan Youngson found Andy Sim who sent in the perfect cross for Martin Shand who bulleted home a fine header. Bank looked a spent force by now but the advantage was too great for Culter although Adam Wilson came on to try and add some impetus. To add insult to injury a long ball into the area was deflected off Andy Sim and crept over the line to complete the scoring and set up Sunnybank through to the final against Longside

Cup Competitions. Emirates Scottish Junior Cup: Culter have been favoured with a home draw in the 2nd Round against St Roch’s on Saturday 31 October 2009, Kick Off 2.00 p.m. St Roch’s are in the West Region Central 2nd Division. Culter previously met St Roch’s in the 2 Round in Glasgow on 26 November 1988. We lost 3-0. Doug Jamieson, covering many duties, including linesman and match reporter stated: “In a match best forgotten, Culter made a disappointing exit from the Scottish Cup. A lack lustre performance and three half goals from careless mistakes in the Culter defence effectively killed off the tie by half time. A very weak referee booked 11 players, 6 of ours and 5 of the opposition. In addition Cohn Marnoch was sent off in the 2 half for retaliation. Culter’s efforts in the 2nd half came to nothing against a well organised St Roch’s defence One to get out of the system!” Our team that afternoon was:- Seivwright, Bremner, Ferris, Cuthill, Shearer, Bird, Fraser, Thomson, Marnoch, Smith, Johnstone; Substitutes: Raffell and Craigmile.
North Regional Cup: Culter have received another home draw in the 2 Round of this Cup against Ellon United.
