2009. Culter capitulated against Dee in a match they should have won if it
not for some derelict defending
Deesicters started well Allan Youngson firing just wide from a Dod McBain pass.
However the early pressure did not last as Dee were awarded a corner and Graham
Long rose unchallenged to bullet a header
John Farquhar. Six minutes later GuItar looked to have got on level terms but
Grant Pennant pulled of a fantastic save from a Richard Wyness rocket. Culter
were making all the running at this stage and Jim EHis
desperately close from an Allan Youngson release. Culter were then awarded a
free kick right on the
of the area although the foul appeared to be committed inside the area but Allan
Youngson’s attempt
easily held by the Keeper. On the half hour mark Hugh Robertson had the bait in
the net with a quick
kick but the referee astonishingly ordered the kick to be retaken. A few minutes
later Martin Shand fought hard to win the ball before he found Allan You ngson
but he blazed the ball just wide. Half Time: 1 — 0.
Shand had a half chance with the first attack of the second period but the
keeper saved well. Moments later there was a melee in the Culter box as the
defence failed to clear on three occasions and Jack Strachan bundled the ball
over the line to double Dee’s lead. Almost immediately Chris Ogboke and Lewis
McKimmie replaced Martin Shand and Jim Eiis and it paid dividends when Chris
Ogboke went on a solo run
slipped a fine shot behind Grant Pennant to give the Deesiders some hope. Four
minutes later Culter
right back in it when Cohn McGuigan upended Chris Ogboke in the area and the big
man stepped up to hammer home the spot kick. Barely a minute later Dee edged in
front when John Farquhar called for a long
which he failed to make contact with and Martin Foy dinked a header over the
stranded ‘keeper and into
net. Culter almost eciualised soon after when Richard Wyness thrashed a shot at
goal but once again the keeper saved well. This was to be the striker’s last
action as he was taken off for Chris Mountford but it was
Ogboke who went close with a header from a Dod MeBain cross. Culter eventually
putled level when
You ngson twisted and turned on the left of the area before sending a deft shot
low into the net to set
rip roaring finish. Dee had a half chance as the clock was ticking away but
Martin Foy bleezed the ball
from the edge of the area. Culter then had two strong penalty claims turned
down. Firstly there appeared to be a hand bail in the box and secondly Lewis
McKimmie was axed well inside the area but on
occasions the referee bottled it only awarding a free kick on the very edge of
the box. In the last minute
defending cost Culter dear when they failed to clear their lines and Ally Reid
spanked a beauty home
all three points.

Playing Pool. Jake Strachan, who joined us from fellow NRJFA side
Hillhead in February 2009 has been transferred back to them. Jake hardly kicked
a ball for Culter during his spell on our books so his departure will not be
very noticeable. Mairs’ Milestone. Congratulations go to Alex and Jean Mair on the
occasion of their Platinum Wedding Anniversary (70 years). Alex was one of our
leading sweepstake sellers in Culter Mills when I took over as Secretary and
Treasurer on 27 March 1961 and I still call at their house every week to collect
their Lottery Tickets plus any Culter FC Press material which they keep for me.
We wish them many more happy, healthy years together.
