Saturday 29 August 2009. Cutter cruised into the First round of the GA
Engineering Cup with a comprehensive victory over a young Bay side.
The precession started in the 1st minute when Ryan Stott freed Dod McBain but he
blasted wide before Ross Mair almost scored an own goal when he put the ball
behind from a Dod McBain cross. The opener wasn’t long in coming when Allan
Youngson went on a sojourn across the edge of the area and slotted the ball home
deftly with his left foot in the 10th minute. Two minutes later the Deesiders
doubled their advantage when Allan Youngson sent Chris Mountford free and the
hit man fired home a left footer from deep inside the area. Dod McBain then
tried his luck from an Allan Youngson pass but blasted well wide before a Chris
Mouniford attempt was cleared off the line by Jamie O’Neil. Chris Mountlord
almost doubled his tally in the 36th minute but the Bay ‘keeper made a good
save. The game was over as a contest in the 38th minute when the Bay ‘keeper
flapped at a Richard Wyness shot and Martin Cooper followed up to blast the ball
high into the net for a good finish. A few moments later Dod McBain set up Ryan
Stott but the winger fired wide on two occasions before Richard Wyness headed
past from a Dod McBain dipping cross. H Time: 3—0.
Soon after the restart Martin Shand replaced Chris Mountlord but it was Richard
Wyness who got number four in 51 minutes when he squeezed the ball home at the
second attempt. Bay were beginning to collapse and Martin Shand had the ball in
the net a couple of minutes later but play was pulled back and a penalty awarded
but the sub stepped up to send the perfect spot kick past the ‘keeper. Culter
then sent on a couple of subs to give some players a run out but it was Hugh
Robertson who provided the ammunition for Martin Shand who blasted the ball at
goal but the shot was well saved by the ‘keeper however Richard Wyness was on
hand to stroke the ball home. Cutter kept pummelling the beleaguered Bay defence
and they were rewarded with 15 minutes to go when Martin Shand sidestepped his
marker to drill a fine shot into the net. Bay had their first shot on goal in
the next minute but it was all too easy for Andy McIntosh in the Culter goal.
