Tuesday 11 August 2009. Culter kept up the good start of the season with a narrow win against Lewis Utd.

Cutter started like a team in a hurry, straight from the kick off they swept up the park. A great cross from George McBain should have had the visitors in front after seconds. In 10 minutes there was a superb interchange of passing between Robertson and McBain, who crossed for Ryan Stott to dink the ball over the advancing ‘keeper to make it 1-0 Culter. Two minutes later Stott should have made it 2-0 but he dragged his attempt wide In 25 minutes Culter’s lack of dominance in midfield led to a long range shot from Lewis United being fumbled by Farquhar and let McKinnon score for Lewis levelling the score at i-i. After 28 minutes had been played Robertson scored at the second time of asking to make it 2-1 in Cutter’s favour. HT 1-2. Lewis started the second half brightly and could have equalised had it not been for a Greg Donald goal line clearance. In the 48th minute Farquhar was called upon again to deal with another Lewis attempt. Two minutes later Stott hit the upright as Cutter tried to regain the initiative. On the hour mark a handball in the area led to the dismissal of C Donald. Lewis then put away the resultant penalty through M Gains making it
2-2. Cutter rang the changes with Allan Youngson for Robertson and Sim for McBain, as Culter still tried to get a grip of the game. lt remained level until a moment of sheer magic from Mountford gave the Deesiders all three points when he latched on to a clearance, turned and volleyed an absolute stoater past the flailing arms of the Lewis ‘keeper in the 84 minute.

Saturday 15 August 2009. Culter progressed into the knockout stage of the Grill League Cup with a win at Findor, Park, although the scoreline suggests that the result was more comfortable than it was. In 8 minutes Cutter had their first shot of the game through Chris Mountford but his effort was tame. On the half hour mark Parkvale thought they had taken the lead but the referee saw a push and disallowed the goal. In 33 minutes Cutter took the lead when George McBain crossed for Mountford who saw his shot blocked, only for Richard Wyness to score in the follow up to make it 1-0 Cutter. Parkvale equalised in the 4O minute through Dean Taylor with a header from the smallest man on the park. Cutter should have been back in front before half time after Foster’s shot was saved but Wyness fired over from close range. Half time 1-1. Culter made a change at the interval with Martin Cooper being replaced by Allan Smith. Smith would prove to be the catalyst for the Deesiders second half revival. In 50 minutes Youngson swung in a corner and Allan Smith powered a header past the Parkvate ‘keeper putting Cutter 2-1 ahead. In 55 minutes Cohn Craik was pole axed in a fairly agricultural looking challenge that resulted in the Cutter man being substituted by M Middler. On the hour mark Middler wasted no time introducing himself to the game as he played in Wyness who squared the ball for Allan Smith to make it 3-1. Cu.lter made their last change of the game when EHis was replaced by Stott. Off a 7O’ minute Culter free kck Ycungson came up with a wicked delivery for Allan Smith to complete his hat trick with a bullet header bringing the score to 4-1. Ryan Stott completed the scoring in75 minutes for Cutter when he was at hand to stroke the ball into the back of the net making the final score 5-i
