Annual Appointments & Awards

Bulletins Back. After the close season break we have resumed publication today.

Annual Awards. Our Annual Awards were announced at our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 21 June 2009. Winners were as follows with the presentations to be made at our first home game of the forthcoming season: Dick Brown Memorial Trophy — presented annually to the member who has done most for the Club over the past Season, was won by Groundsman George J Aitken. George, ably assisted by Gordon Laing, keeps Crombie Park in wonderful condition. Our Ground earns praise from far and near from visiting Clubs. In his previous spell with Culter, also in the capacity as Groundsman, George previously won this trophy twice - in 1972/73 and in 1982/83. Player of the Year — Larry Barclay Trophy. Team Captain Murray Rattray says “Allan ‘Alfie’ Youngson joined Culter from Inverurie Locos last summer and immediately made an impact. Alfie is considered to be one of the best players in the Junior Leagues. Alfie contributed significantly to last season’s exploits scoring 16 goals on the way. Further to his goal scoring record is his ability to see opportunities which is matched by his wide range of passing. Never short of an opinion or a comment, this is borne from his thirst to win, which can only be considered an asset, however, not sure the referees would agree!!! Congratulations on a fantastic season and here’s wishing you many more to come with Culter”.

Friend!y Fixturo. Our tc fhendly fixtures resulted as follows: -

Tuesday 21 Juy 2009 Culter 1 v Stonehaven 0 (at Crombie Park, Culter) Ref: Martin Kerrigan Murray Rattray’s summary is as follows:“After a number of weeks of training the preseason games finally got underway against fellow Junior side Stonehaven. Culter blooded all of their new signings in a game which was played at a reasonably high tempo. The game was played in what turned out to be terrible conditions with the weather being more akin to a cold wet day in January than an evening in July. The final scored ended up 1-0 to Culter and new signing Alan Smith scoring the only goal. The next game is against Huntly at Christie Park which we certainly offer a greater challenge”

Saturday 25 July 2009. Huntly 4 v Culter 1 (at Christie Park, Huntly) Ref: Thomas Shaw. Huntly were two goals ahead after only 3 minutes had been played through a Stuart Soane penalty after John Farquhar brought down Myles Brownhill and after the restart Craig Dorrat broke through to fire home. Culter were denied when Ross Bremner blocked a close range try by Alan Smith and the ball broke to Martin Cooper whose try hit the post. Huntly almost went further ahead but Myles Brownhill's shot also hit the post. Culter came back into contention in 34 minutes when Richard Wyness scored and Cohn Craik almost equahised but his try went narrowly over the bar. Half Time: Huntly 2 v Culter 1.
Soon after the interval Richard Wyness came near but his shot was held by Ross Bremner, Myles Brownhill increased Huntly’s lead by heading home a 57th minute corner. The home team’s 4th goal was netted by Michael Ewen after 67 minutes had been played. Chris Mountford had two late tries hut was denied through great saves by Ross Bremner
