Culter v Lewis United: Culter scrambled a draw against lowly United at Crombie Park on Tuesday 12th of May in a meaningless match for the Deesiders although the visitors were desperate for points.
The Aberdeen side started brightly when Ryan Smith set up Phil Helson but his header was well saved by John Farquhar. With only 4 minutes gone Lewis were awarded a controversial penalty kick when Andy Sim was adjudged to have barged Ryan Smith in the box and Matt Gairns made no mistake from the spot. Lewis turned up the pressure with Danny Forde and Phil Helson both going close as Culter struggled to cope with the route one tactics. Midway through the half Culter did begin to get back into it but skipper Murray Rattray headed over from an Allan Youngson free kick before Martin Shands acrobatic effort was well saved by Key Martin. Culter did get the ball in the net just before half time when a wonderful cross by Ryan Stott was knocked home by Martin Shand but incredibly it was ruled out for offside. Half Time: 0— 1.
The early stages of the second half were evenly contested with neither side prominent with much huffing and puffing but little goalmouth action. Culter then sent on Dod McBain, Hugh Robertson and Chris Mountford in quick succession but it was Allan Youngson who almost grabbed the equaliser when his sparkling free kick was fantastically saved by the Lewis ‘keeper. Late on Murray Rattray was yellow carded when it might have been red when he fouled Ally Nicholl on the edge of the box. With time running out the Deesiders threw caution to the wind and it paid dividends when Chris Mountford bundled the ball home in stoppage time following a spell of intense pressure.

Culter v Banks o’ Dee: Cuiter’s last chance of silverware was washed away with the heavy rain as Banks o Dee came from a goal behind to book their final spot. They will now play either Hilihead or Hermes in the Final. Culter started the more eager team and Craik smashed a 12 yard effort off the crossbar after only 5 minutes. A Youngson corner was headed over by McBain when left in space at the back post. Foy then had a great chance when he got the break of the ball in the home box but his daisy Culter flashed across the face of the goal. Farquhar did brilliantly to palm away Turnbull’s fierce free kick before the home team went in front. McBain weaved his way past 3 defenders before his low cross was side footed into the net by Hugh ROBERTSON in the 17th minute. After 28 minutes it was all square following a defensive blunder in the home defence and Martin FOY was left with an easy tap
in. With half approaching M Robertson saw his snap shot cannon off the post with the ‘keeper beaten. Half Time: I — I. Pennet had to scramble his way across goal to gather a powerful McKimmie shot but in 51 minutes it was the Dee who went ahead. Farquhar punched the ball only as far as Craib whose first time cross was hooked into the net by Richard SCAIFE. Culter replied with Craik’s powerful strike being well saved by Pennet. McNamee saw his header kicked off the line by Stott but in 59 minutes the home team were reduced to 10 men when Cohn Craik was red carded for an off the ball incident. In the 66th minute things got worse when Scaife dulled an overhead kick into the path of Martin FOY who blasted the ball past Farquhar despite the ‘keeper getting a hand to the ball. Sim had a terrific run and shot that just cleared the upright but Foy should have claimed his hat trick when he placed the ball past the post when left in acres of space with the home defence still claiming for offside. Youngson had a free kick easily saved and despite Culter finishing the game with three up front they couldn’t finish the game as strongly as they had started it.
