Hillhead v Culter: Manager Gray again rang the changes to the team beaten by Maud at the weekend before but in a game totally dominated by the away team they couldn’t turn their possession into goals. Culter had beaten Hillhead 5— 1 on each of their previous encounters this season.
There was 18 minutes gone before the flrst shot on target, Gray diving to palm away Youngsons well paced effort. McKimmie lashed a shot just wide and H Robertson volleyed high over the bar from inside the box as Culter camped in the home half Pyper had Hillhead’s first real effort on goal in the 33td minute but Farquhar got down easily to save. Minutes later H Robertson pounced on McHattie’s poor attempted pass back but Gray did well to push Shugs effort round the post when left one on one. As half time approached McBain waltzed past 4 defenders in the box but miskicked the ball just at the final moment. Half Time: 0 — 0. From the kick off Youngson played a neat pass to McBain who unleashed a powerful curling drive that just cleared the bar and then H Robertson volleyed high over the bar from 8 yards after good wing play by McBain. With 59 minutes gone there was a lengthy stoppage when Ryan Stott suffered a serious head injury that required hospital treatment. Once the match restarted Farquhar made a great one handed save from a powerful Allan drive. Youngson then saw his curling 25 yard free kick strike the far post and land at the feet of Farmer who somehow fluffed his shot from close range. In a rare Hilihead attack Morrison saw his free kick deflected wide before Sim smashed a long range effort just agonizingly past.

Culter v Maud: Culter may yet take something from a frustrating season with a hard fought win over Maud. The Deesiders now play Banks O’Dee in the semi final at Crombie Park. Dee thrashed East End to set up what looks like an enthralling tie.

Culter started with their tails up and almost went in front in the first minute when a well struck Hugh Robertson free kick was well saved by Lee Simpson. The Deesiders did take the lead in the 10th minute when a perfect Cohn Craik cross was bundled into his own net by Bruce Davidson with Martin Shand and Allan Youngson both in close attendance. Dod McBain then went on a lung bursting run but his pacy cross found no takers. A few minutes later Alex Davidson tested John Farquhar with a brammer of a volley but the Culter ‘keeper produced a fine save. The visitors were right back in it in the 23rd minute when Richie Ligertwood was allowed to run unchecked from the middle of the park and he gave the Culter ‘keeper no chance with a low drive into the corner of the net. Iviornents later Andy Sirn went scampering down the right but his cross was turned behind for a corner which came to nothing. Maud took the lead in the 30th minute when a cross from John Usher struck Mafl Robertson on the arm and despite the Culter protestations Referee Craig Veitch pointed straight to the spot. lan Murray stepped up to send John Farquhar the wrong way with a clinical strike. Culter’s frustrations began to get the better of them and Hugh Robertson and Alan Youngson were both yellow carded by the over zealous man in black as half time approached. Half Time: I 2.
The Deesiders were back in it again just after the interval when Martin Shand with his back to goal turned his man and sent a perfect finish low into the net. A super finish, It was all Culter now as Cohn Craik sent a snapper just wide but the home side had Ryan Pressley to thank when he cleared off the line from Alex Davidson in a rare Maud sojourn forward. Moments later Andy Sim tried his luck from distance but with the ‘keeper nowhere his effort skinned the bar. With 19 minutes of the half gone Ryan Pressley bulleted a header forward and Hugh Robertson picked up the bail on the edge of the area before bending a daisy Culter low into the net. Martin Shand then had strong claims for a penalty as he was bundled off the ball in the box but the ref. waved play on. Dod McBain almost made it four but his whistling strike only found the side netting before Allan Youngsor went on a mazy run but Lee Simpson pulled off a wonderful save to keep Maud in the match. In his last piece of action before he was replaced by Derek Craigie, Dod McBain came close again with a fine header from a Ryan Pressley cross but once again the ‘keeper made a fine stop.
