Banchory St Ternan v Culter: Culter made three changes to the team that
defeated Stonehaven on Saturday, Ryan Pressley, Hugh and Matthew Robertson
replacing Murray Rattray, Martin Shand and Derek Craigie. In the 3rd minute
Courage had a greatchance when through one on one with Farquhar but his
shot failed to hit the target. Hugh Robertson then tested home keeper Sim with a
12 yard volley. Farquhar was then called into action again saving with his legs
from Cruickshank’s close range shot. Culter made the breakthrough in the 28th
minute when Stott was fouled in the box by Kelly and Allan YOUNGSON
converted the resultant penalty. Farquhar produced another great save tipping a
14 yard shot by Courage over the bar. Culter had a penalty claim waved away as
half time approached. Half Time: 0 — 1. In 47minutes Farquhar was again called into action, tipping over Home’s
30 yard scorcher. A minute later, however, the home team were level, HORNE
converting a cross from the left. In the 57th minute Culter were back in
front, Hugh Robertson’s defence splitting pass was finished brilliantly by Allan
YOUNGSON. Four minutes later a corner from the left was headed goalwards
by McKimmie towards H Robertson who glanced the ball over from two yards.
Substitute Martin Shand headed over Sims cross as Culter tried to secure the
game but in the 79th minute Banchory’s REID scrambled home the equaliser after a
goalmouth melee to dent Culter’s title hopes.

Courage, Home, Cromar. Substitutes: Skinner, Reid, Strachan, Watt, Henderson.

Culter v Maud: In a ding dong match that was spoiled by a card happy
referee who had more booking’s then His Majesty’s Theatre, Maud ruined any
lingering hopes of Culter regaining the league title. Youngson at full stretch lobbed well over from a good position in the 3rd
minute but it was Maud who went in front after only 6 minutes. Davidson’s free
kick 25 yards out found the head of Richard LIGERTWOOD who could not miss
from inside the 6 yard box. Minutes later Sim mistimed a clearance in the box
and the ball fell again to Ligertwood whose first time shot was saved by the
outstretched leg of Farquhar. Not to be outdone Maud increased their lead in the
27th minute when McKimmie fouled Usher in the box and Jason McDONALD
stepped up to hammer the penalty home. Culter were right back in the game in 32
minutes when an exchange of passes between Farmer and Youngson ended with
Allan YOUNGSON dancing his way though the Maud defence before slipping the
ball past ‘keeper Simpson for a great goal. A minute before half time and Culter
were level, Craigie found space on the left wing before drilling the ball across
the edge of the 6 yard box to be met by the inrushing Lewis McKIMMIE to
slot home. Half Time: 2 — 2. Culter went in front for the first
time in the match in the 48th minute when Allan YOUNGSON outstripped the
Maud defence before placing the ball past Simpson and into the net. The home
team went further in front when neat play by Farmer on the left saw his cross
cleared only as far as Murray RATTRAY who flighted a 30 yarder over the
‘keeper and into the top corner in 56 minutes. Five minutes later after a
scramble in the home box Richard LIGERTWOOD was left with the easy task
of firing home from close mange. In the 73rd minute it was all square again, Ian
Murray seemed to have dived in the box from a soft challenge by Wilson but
amazingly the referee pointed to the spot. McDonald’s penalty was brilliantly
saved by Farquhar but the rebound landed at the feet of Ligertwood whose shot
hit the post, rebounded off the right leg of John FARQUHAR and trickled
over the line into the net. Ian MURRAY piled on the misery for the home
team in 77 minutes when he side stepped the home defence before firing the ball
past Farquhar from 10 yards.
M Robertson brought out a fine diving save by Simpson late on but there was
still time for Referee Shaw to show Allan Youngson the red card for 2 cautions
in the dying stages.
