McLeman Cup jst Round — Saturday 11 April 2009
Lewis United 0 v Culter 1 (at Crombie Park, Culter) Half Time: 0 — I
Culter Scorer: Derek Craigie (14 minutes)
Culter progressed to the
next round of the Cup but made heavy going of it against a poor Lewis United
team. The strong wind also made it a day for not much flowing football. This was
a home draw for Lewis United who are playing all their games away this season.
Culter had the best of the opening exchanges but it was Forde who beat their
offside trap but Farquhar was quick off his line to clear the danger. Craigie
did have the ball in the net but was judged to have fouled Middler. Farmer then
produced some good old fashioned wing play by skipping past Cruickshank before
sending in a dangerous cross, but there were no takers. Culter took the lead
their play deserved when Craik’s cross was met at the front post by Derek
CRAIGIE who volleyed the ball high into the net in the l4’ minute. Minutes later
Craigie found Farmer who in turn found Shand in space but his shot went weakly
past. Hulson’s free kick was deflected over and Farquhar was again quick off the
line to deny Craig. Middler’s wind assisted free kick flew over as Lewis United
tried to get back in the game. With half time approaching Forde laid the ball on
to Stewart who blasted high over the upright from only 12 yards.
Half Time: 1 - 0
The Deesiders attacked straight from the kick off and Farmer’s first time cross
was met by Shand who somehow shot past from 5 yards. Farmer then sent a screamer
past before McBain went on a mazy run before placing his shot just by the
upright. Craigie then headed just over from a corner. Garioch won a tackle in
midfield before sending a 30 yard shot towards the top corner that Martin did
well to palm over. McKimmie then went on mazy run before playing in Shand whose
first time effort just flew past the post. Farquhar had an easy save from Helson
as Lewis showed real threat to the Culter goal. McBain lit up a dull end to the
game by skipping past 3 players before blasting a 20 yarder just over. McKimmie
headed a Stott cross just wide before Shand again blasted past from close range
after a good play by Youngson.
