3rd Round North Regional Cup — Saturday 21 March 2009
Culter I Banks o’ Dee 2 (at Crombie Park, Culter) Half Time: 0 —1
Scorers: Culter - H Robertson (92 mins), Banks o’ Dee - G Long (14 mins), R
Stainer (58 mins)
Culter’s miserable March
continued with a disappointing exit from the North Regional Cup at the hands of
reigning champions Banks o’ Dee. Dee reversed the 2 — I scoreline to avenge
their Superleague defeat at Crombie Park on 28 February 2009. Culter are now
left in only one Cup Competition this season, the McLeman Cup, and meet
groundless Lewis United at Crombie Park in the 1st Round on Saturday 11 April
2009.
Culter started well with Craigie and McBain both blasting over from similar
positions just inside the box in the opening minutes. Dee waited till the 10th
minute for their first attempt at goal as Foy headed well over from 6 yards. In
the 14th minute Farquhar did brilliantly to tip Brownhill’s drive round the post
but from the resultant corner he could only watch as Graeme LONG sent a power
header into the home net from close range. Culter’s reply was swift with Wilson
heading over and then McKimmie’s looping shot from well out just clearing the
bar. Stott had a first time shot cleared off the line by McNamee and the with
half time approaching the Deesiders had strong claims for a penalty turned away
after Sim was tripped in the box. Half Time: 0 - 1
In the 56th minute a Youngson free kick found Wilson whose powerful header
rebounded back off the crossbar. Two minutes later the Dee were two in front
with a simple goal. A hopeful punt down the middle found Richard STAINER in
space and he had plenty of time to slot the ball past the home ‘keeper. Seconds
later Brownhill flicked the ball past the post when it seemed easier to score
and at the other end Forbes did well to palm away a Wilson piledriver. Farquhar
had a fine double save at the feet of Reid before Culter finally pulled a goal
back. Farmer combined well with Robertson and after finding his way to the goal
line cut the ball back to Hugh ROBERTSON who stroked the ball home from 12 yards
in the 92nd minute for a consolation goal.
