Rainbow International Superleague — Saturday 13 December 2008: Culter 5 v
Hillhead 1 (at Crombie Park, Culter) HT: 3 — 1. Culter Scorers: Lewis
McKimmie (21 and 51 mins), Murray Rattray (26 mins), Martin Shand (39 mins)
and Martin Cooper (46 mins). Hilihead Scorer: Marivsz Kwiatkewski (11 mins)
It was a very wet dark afternoon resulting in a poor attendance but
fortunately the game went ahead and ended before total darkness descended.
After suffering an early setback, Culter ended up comfortable winners
against bottom club Hilihead. The three points keep the home side second in
the league.
Hilihead had the best of the early stages and Pyper saw his shot from the
edge of the box go just wide of the post. Farquhar then had to look smart to
turn Marivsz KWIATKEWSKI’s decent effort out for a corner in the 10th minute
but the striker made amends a minute later when he collected a Morrison pass
just inside the box and despatched a low shot into the corner of the net to
put the away team ahead. Only a minute later Kwiatkewski beat the Culter
offside trap but this time Farquhar was well off his line to clear the
danger. Culter drew level in the 21st minute when Lewis McKIMMIE latched
onto a Stott pass and flicked it past the onrushing Braidwood before having
all the time to poke the ball into the empty net. Five minutes later and the
home team were in front, Stott’s rasping drive was tipped past the post for
a corner and from the resultant corner the ball fell to Murray RATTRAY who
turned Pyper in the box before seeing his thumping drive deflected into the
net. Culter went further ahead in the 39th minute when Sim’s cross was
flicked home by the head of Martin SHAND. McKimmie then crashed an effort
off the bar and Wilson hit the post as the referee blew for half time. Half
Time: 3 — 1.
Almost straight from the kick off the Deesiders went further ahead. Stott’s
cross found Shand in the box who laid the ball into the path of Martin
COOPER who gleefully hammered the ball into the corner of the net from 12
yards. The game was over as a contest when Lewis McKIMMIE left his marker in
knots and sent a delightful shot past the helpless Braidwood in the 51st
minute. Minutes later Robertson had a 30 yard drive rebound off the post
with the away keeper a spectator then Stows cross was met at the front post
by the sliding Shand but the striker was unlucky to see his effort hit the
post. Wood almost pulled a goal back for Hillhead but his shot from 10 yards
just skimmed past post. With light fading Stott had time for one more
effort, but his powerful drive hit the side netting.
