Fixture Frozen

The top of the Superleague table clash Culter v Banks o’ Dee due to be played at Crombie Park, Culter on Saturday 29 November 2008 was postponed due to our frozen pitch. The morning inspection was carried out by Referee Alex Lovie who declared our ground unplayable.

5 Years Ago. On Saturday 29 November 2003 Culter blew their 100% Superleague record with a reverse at Jamieson Park, Woodside, in atrocious conditions which were more suited to water polo than soccer. A howling wind and driving rain made decent football an impossibility combined with some strange refereeing decisions. Peter Stewart put Culter ahead but Lads Club equalised to make it 1.-i at the interval. The home side scored twice to go 3-1 up but Culter were thrown a lifeline when Neil McRitchie was brought down in the box and he hammered home the penalty off the underside of the bar. Culter were denied a stonewall penalty late on when a defender handled in the box but the referee turned down the vehement appeals. It ended 3-2 for Lads Club.

15 Years Ago. After eight consecutive wins, Culter were brought down to earth by lowly Buchanhaven Hearts at Raemoss Park, Peterhead, on Saturday 27 November 1993, in a Premier Division match. The score was 3-2 for the home side and the game was officiated by D Fleming. Buchanhaven were ahead 3-1 at the interval through goals from Billy McNeil, Mel Buchan and veteran Jim Cruse whilst our goal came from a Paul Thomson penalty. Paul brought Culter back into contention with a 2nd half goal then a Les Mason shot was turned against the post by ‘keeper Michael Grant and the rebound came back into his arms. Culter continued to press hard but the desired equatiser was not forthcoming. Our tine-up was:- SJolIy; G Davidson, A Johnstone;M Greig, A Vass, L Mason; D Nicol, P Thomson, C Marnoch, K Lovie, D Warman; Substitutes: D Oxley and W Thain.

Our 8th Celebrity Dinner was held on Monday 15 November 1993 and had a turnout of 320 gentlemen. The main speaker was highly praised Gordon Smith, Comedian Jack Dougary provided great entertainment with his banjo backed humour and Compere Frank Gilfeather conducted the evening’s proceedings with his capable charm. The £100 Irish Bingo Prize was won by John Ogston.

25 Years Ago. On Saturday 26 November 1983 Culter beat Blackburn 3-2 at Crombie Park, Culter, in an Amateur League Division 1 game. Our scorers that day were Andy Skinner, Steven Munson and Chippy Reid. It was 1-0 in our favour at the interval and the Referee was Douglas Reid.

Winner of the Correct Score Competition was Allan Menhinick. After the previous week’s injury against Cove Rangers, Jim Sutherland was still going about on crutches. The Blackthorn side included brothers Brian and Bev Hendry
and as an injury gesture Brian Hendry of Video Centre gave Jim a video and tapes for a week free of charge.

Team Captain Peter George was pleased by that day’s win on his birthday. Our team was:- B Milne; R Kennedy, R Westland; I Massie (Triatist), P George (Captain), A Skinner; S Munson, K Thompson, R Donald, C Reid, S Davidson; Substitutes: R Clark and A Reid.
