The Superleague Match, Lewis United v Culter, due to be played at Crombie
Park, Culter on Saturday 22 November 2008 was postponed due to our snow
covered pitch. Our game against Lewis United seems ill-fated as we were due
to play them at Culter in the Superleague on Saturday 25 October 2008 but it
was cancelled due to the gale force winds that day.
10 Years Ago. By co-incidence Culter’s fixture on Saturday 28
November 1998 was Lewis United v Culter! The match was drawn 1 — 1 at Chris
Anderson Stadium, Aberdeen. Alan Chalmers headed Culter in front with his
first goal for the club and just on half time Evans equalised. The Lewis
United Goalkeeper was Tony Buckley and our team was: Troup, Fraser, Small,
Gibb, Chalmers, Smith, D W Galbraith, Thomson, Forbes, Stewart, Marr; Subs:
S Johnston, Craigie, Gilfeather, Hulse and Bremner. Culter Manager Steve
Anderson had made two key acquisitions in the last few days with the
appointment of former player Millar Kennedy as his assistant and the signing
of ‘keeper Ross Bremner from Huntly. Goalkeeper Ross returned to Huntly and
was pictured and featured in the Evening Express on Friday 21 November 2008
having signed a new contract tying him to Christie Park until 2011. Our 13th
Celebrity Dinner was held on Friday 20 November 1998 after being
traditionally held on a Monday and resulted in being a sell-out. The
audience had an unexpected titillation when Laurence McLeod had a surprise
40th Birthday present! The Speakers were Mike Summerbee and John Gahagan,
Compere was Frank Gilfeather with last minute addition to the line-up
Comedian Mike King.
20 Years Ago. Culter beat Buchanhaven Hearts 1 — 0 in the Bon Accord
Glass Premier Division at Raemoss Park, Peterhead on Saturday 19 November 1
988. Our scorer was Paul Thomson who netted the winner in the 87th minute.
The Referee was Ian Wright and our line-up was: Seivwright; Bremner,
Ferries, Cuthill, Shearer, Thomson, Fraser, Bird, Marnoch, Smith, Mason;
Subs: Craigmile and Johnstone.
30 Years Ago. In an Amateur League Division 1 game Culter beat
Aberdeen University 3 — 1 at Balgownie on Saturday 18 November 1 978. This
win put Culter clear at the top of the table.
George Rennie officiated and on target were Peter George, Norman Gilbert and
Peter Longmoor whilst Les Cobban, who later played for Culter, netted for
Aberdeen University. Culter fielded:-
Davidson, Lawrence, Galashan, Westland (Captain), George, Shand, Stuart,
Longmoor, Smith, Gilbert, Garden; Substitutes: Scott and Graham.
Craigie Comeback. We welcome back Derek Craigie to our playing pool
from Ellon United. Powerful Derek is a strong striker and is sure to be on
target for us in the near future. Derek previously joined us at the start of
the 1998/99 season and the following season in September 1999 he was
transferred to Turriff United.

CULTER FOOTBALL CLUB CELEBRITY DINNER XXIII
MENZIES DYCE ABERDEEN AIRPORT FRIDAY 14 NOVEMBER 2008
Our 23rd Celebrity Dinner was once more held in the refurbished Menzies Dyce
Aberdeen Airport Hotel.
Outstanding organiser Eric J Duncan, for his 23d time, did his superb work in
arranging the event ably assisted by Doug Jamieson and Doug Mime whilst
thankfully Margaret Davidson looked after the financial transactions during yet
another busy evening.
The attendance was 213 gentlemen this year amazingly only one less than last
year! A 49 seater coach plus a 16 seater minibus conveyed members, supporters
and guests to the function from The Seafield Club whilst another 16 seater
minibus made the journey with the Culter contingent. Top Table guest was again
Evening Express Reporter Richard Easton.
Piper Robert Grant led the Top Table to their seats in the glittering function
room.
President Doug Jamieson yet again made a fine introductory speech. He made kind
remarks about myself and sang the praises of Eric and Main Sponsor Doug Milne
for their tremendous contribution in arranging our Dinner.
Compere extraordinaire Peter Mitchell introduced Guest Speakers Peter Lorimer
and Brian McGinlay, Bobby Gray and Richard Easton. The event commenced with the
Pre Dinner Raffle and the three prize winners are detailed overleaf.
This was followed by “Heads & Tails” and when only two contestants remained
Compere Peter Mitchell gave them the choice of sharing the £500 Prize or to
continue for only one winner. Ken McLauchlin and John Cattenach chose to split
the prize and were delighted to accept £250 each. This is the first time that
the “Heads & Tails” win has been shared.
Doug Jamieson then announced that Senior Member Gordon Morrison who normally
says Grace was unable to attend due to him being invited to a Golden Wedding
this evening. Gordon was very disappointed with this clash of events but he once
again composed our Grace which was delivered by Doug:
So here we are for our Annual “munch”
which we hope and expect to again be a winner,
Let’s forget for a moment, the “Credit Crunch”
and enjoy to the full Culter F.C.’s Dinner.
We thank you all for your generous backing
The Evening’s before us so let’s get cracking,
“For what we are about to receive
may the Lord make us truly thankful.” Amen
Thanks go to the Hotel and their fine Staff on our customary meal which was much
enjoyed and their efficient service was much appreciated.

reminiscences.

amusing after-dinner performance, reflecting on his footballing career, with
