Superleaque — Saturday 18 October 2008: East End 2 v Culter 5 (at New
Advocates Park, Aberdeen)
East End Scorer: Paul Yeats (43 and 60 mins) Cutter Scorers: George McBain
(4 and 19 mins), Lewis
McKimmie (21 and 46 mins) and Ryan Stott (42 mins)
Culter produced a battling performance against a stuffy East End team and a
strong wind to gain all 3 points at New Advocates Park.
Culter shot into the lead when George McBAIN placed a 16-yard curling shot past
the rooted home ‘keeper in only the 4th minute. The same player grabbed a second
when in the 19th minute Donny Adam was fouled wide on the left and George McBAIN
‘s free kick eluded the home defence and somehow ended up in the back of the
net. Two minutes later Lewis McKIMMIE latched onto a Rattray punt up the park
and expertly lobbed home ‘keeper Barney from 30 yards. Minutes later McBain
attempted to grab his hat trick but his long-range effort just cleared the bar
with the ‘keeper posted missing. McKimmie had a diving header go just wide of
the upright but it wasn’t tong before the next goal. Ryan STOTT had just come
back onto the pitch after receiving treatment when he came flying in at the back
post to knock the ball home from just inside the 6 yard box in 42 minutes. The
home team went straight up the park and pulled one back, Paul YEATS scoring from
close range after good play by Steel. Half Time: 1 —4.
Any chance of a comeback from the home team was quickly killed off a minute into
the second half. Lewis McK!MM!E powered Hugh Robertson’s first time cross home.
In the 60th minute Lowe brought out a fine stop from Farquhar but the ball
landed back at the winger’s feet and he squared the ball to Paul YEATS who
couldn’t miss from only yards out. The next minute Rattray was on hand to
blooter the ball to safety when Harris looked certain to score. McBain and
McKimmie combined well to set up Hugh Robertson but his header just cleared the
bar. The Deesiders easily held out for the rest of the game and now join
Sunnybank and Banks o’ Dee on 12 points at the top of the league.

Saturday 25 October 2008 — Cutter v Lewis United (at Crombie Park, Culter)
Cup Cracker — the 2 Round of the Scottish Junior Cup has resulted Cutter v
Pollok (at Crombie Park, Culter) on Saturday 1 November 2008 giving us a
formidable task against the renowned side Pollok. Pollock are 5-1 favourites to
win the competition! This is Pollock’s Centenary Year, having been formed in
1908. We had a memorable 3 Round Tie against Pollock at Newlandsfield Park,
Glasgow on 6 January 1990. Our Club Bus and Supporters Bus were full for the
trip. The weather was remarkably mild and the afternoon sunshine made it a
pleasure for the big crowd of around 1000. Their ground had extensive facilities
including a souvenir shop selling their Club merchandise and I did my match
reporting from their Press Box accompanied by a complimentary dram! Cutter lost
2-0 but were by no means disgraced. Pollok went ahead in 67 minutes and with
Culter pressing for a late equatiser injustice was done when Pollok scored in
injury time with the last kick of the game to make it 2-0. We enjoyed superb
hospitality and President Andy Wilson started his first speech (he made at least
three!) by saying that he thought the Glasgow slogan would have to be changed to
“Glasgow City of Culter”. Our team that memorable day was:- R Seivwright; M
Craigmile, A Johnstone; S Rose, E Shearer, L Mason; M Kennedy, K Kennedy, P
Smith, P Thomson, A Walker; Substitutes: B Burnett and C Marnoch.
