Culter cruised to an easy victory against amateur opposition West End at
Crombie Park on Saturday 26 July.
The opening exchanges were fairly even as the Deesiders new players got to
know each other but it did not take them long to settle with Hugh Robertson
dominating the middle of the park. The home side took the lead in the 13th
minute when a whipping Gordon Farmer cross was turned into his own net by
the unfortunate Paul Morrison. End hit back and were unlucky when a Cohn
Munro attempt skittered wide of John Farquhar’s post and they went closer a
few moments later when a quick free kick caught Culter napping but the ball
whistled just over the bar. Culter went further ahead soon after when a good
run down the flank by George McBain culminated in him squaring the ball for
Martin Shand who side footed home from close range. With 38 minutes on the
clock End almost pulled one back but this time former player Paul O’Hare’s
attempt scraped the bar and over to safety. With the half time cuppa fast
approaching Hugh Robertson tried his luck from outside the area but the ball
took a deflection and went behind for a corner.
Both sides rung the changes at the start of the second period and it was two
Culter subs who combined to make it number three. Donnie Adam set up Adam
Wilson and he found the net past the despairing Steve Garden in the End
goal. Adam Wilson then Andy Sim both had good efforts crash agonisingly wide
as Culter turned on the screw. Ryan Stott made it four a little later when
he scored from a Cohn Craik pass. End got a late consolation when a Richard
Taylor pass was turned home past Kenny McLauchlin by Greg Moir. Donnie Adam
almost made it nap very late on but he contrived to shoot over.
