Satisfactory Season Start

Friendly Fixture -Saturday 19 July 2008

Culter 2 v Broughty Athletic 2 (at Crombie Park, Culter) Half Time: 0-2

Culter Scorers: Adam Wilson (52 mins) and Allan Youngson (53 mins)

Broughty Athletic Scorer: Russell (39 and 43 mins)

Culter's new look side gave a very encouraging performance for the season ahead playing some good football despite the strong wind. In the 7th minute Robertson had the first chance of the match but his side-footed effort flew inches wide and then Gregory squared to Craik who blasted the ball high from a good position. Stott then played the ball to Youngson only for his effort to fly over the bar. The away team then went straight up the park and Russell saw his effort from distance just scrape the post as Culter battled against the strong wind. In 31 minutes Stott's low driven cross was met by Shand which was well saved by the foot of the diving Anderson. Shand then had Anderson scrambling across his line to turn his half volley round the post. Ferry took the lead in the 39th minute when Smith passed to RUSSELL whose first time lob from 25 yards gave Farquhar no chance. The away team were two up 4 minutes later when RUSSELL's free kick from way out eluded everyone and somehow managed to end up in the Culter net. Half Time: 0 - 2

Adam's 22 yarder was palmed round the post but Culter pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute, Shand was fouled on the edge of the box and WILSON stepped up to hammer the ball past the wall and the away 'keeper. A minute later and itwas all square. Shand laid the ball into the path of YOUNGSON who perfectly placed his shot passed the diving Anderson. Youngson shot wide and then McBain's surging run into the box saw his cross come shot just fly past the upright. Stott then saw his goal bound effort cleared by Smith. Farquhar saved well at the second attempt to deny Berlie and then the home 'keeper had to be smart off his line to save at the feet of Smith. Farquhar was called into action again saving a Smith piledriver at the front post. In the 89th minute Farquhar pulled off a great save from Berlie again and ther somehow cleared the danger from the on rushing O'Leary. Shand had a great chance to score in the last minute, but Anderson easily collected his weak effort from Wilson's cross.
