Rainbow International Superleague Hillhead I Culter 2 H-T 0-I
Cutter remain in fifth place in the Superleague following a decent victory
at Hillhead. Manager Bobby Gray had to ring the changes again following a
series of call offs before the game.
The Deesiders brought the game to the home side early on with Martin Shand
testing John Farquhar in the 1st minute. Moments later Cutter had lucky
escape when former player Steve Morrison hit the post but the ball rebounded
to safety. With 15 minutes gone Peter Stewart set up Martin Shand for the
visitors but his attempt was woefully off target before Hillhead came back
into it following a series of corners which came to nought. The Deesiders
took the lead in fine fashion with half an hour gone when Martin Cooper fed
George McBain and he skipped into the box before cutting bad to MARTIN SHAND
who blasted home. This seemed to galvanise the champions and they dominated
the remaining part of the half and Cohn Craik almost made it two following
good lead up play but he blasted just over from the edge of the area.
Culter started the second half in imperious form with Gordon Framer
beginning to make an impact down the left with one terrific cross falling to
find an takers. Peter Stewart then touched on to Andy Campbell and only a
superb touch away from the home keeper prevented Martin Shand from adding
second. Hillhead should have equalised with 17 minutes of the period gone
but Barry Stephen blasted wide when clean through on goal. Cutter the sent
on John Brown and Murray Rattray for Peter Stewart and Steve Rintoul and it
proved to be an inspired decision as John Brown ducked a dived down the
right before sending in a great ball and GORDON FARMER darted in to blast
the ball past the hapless ‘keeper in the 75th minute. Martin Shand could
have made it three soon after but his shot on the turn crept wide. Hillhead
got a consolation late on when BOB MORRICE was left all or his own down the
right and he sped into the box to thrash the ball behind the Cutter keeper.

Rainbow International Super League Cutter 5 Stonehaven 5 H-T 2-1
It was the rocky horror show for Culter stand in ‘keeper Scott Knox as
Culter surrendered a 5-2 lead with 20 minutes to go.
Hive almost scored with the first attack when Scott Knox missed the ball but
the visiting forward could only strike the post. The Deesiders took the lead
in the 10e minute when Colin Craik found Gordon Farmer who played in MARTIN
SHAND and he finished clinically. Ten minutes later Hive were back in it
when Scott Knox was slow off his line and he pole axed Cohn Pine in the box
for a penalty. MIKE ADAM stepped up to equalise for the visitors Culter
dominated the rest of the half and were rewarded when a Gordon Farmer corner
was powerfully headed home by ANDY CAMPBELL in the 42nd minute.
With 15 minutes of the second period gone Culter looked to be on easy street
when a Peter Stewart pass was headed home by ANDY SIM. Two minutes later
Hive were right back in it when a poorly struck shot from EWAN CAMPBELL
somehow evaded the Cutter ‘keeper. Culter edged further ahead in the 63
minute when GORDON FARMER shot home following good lead up play. Four
minutes later GORDON FARMER looked to have secured all three points for the
home side when he produced a spectacular lob to put Cutter 5-2 up.
Stonehaven again clawed their way back into the match when RYAN STEWART
easily beat the Culter keeper. Worse was to follow with three minutes left
when DAVID GLASS lobbed Scott Knox from a long way out and just on the
whistle the comeback was complete when STEVE ROBERTSON netted.

Rainbow International Super League Maud 0 Culter I H-T 0-I
Culter clinched third spot in the Superleague with a hard fought victory
over a decimated Maud outfit who had several players missing due to a stag
party. The Home side drafted in a few trialists to make up the numbers but
none the less gave the Deesiders a run for their money. It all started so
brightly for Cutter with Gordon Farmer prominent down the left and the
Huntly Harrier provided a good cross for Graham Cadger but his header
whistled over. Moments later Graham Cadger went down in the box but the ref
waved play on and seconds later Gordon Farmer suffered the same fate but the
man in black was having none of it. With 20 minutes gone Cohn Craik had to
replace the hurt Martin Cooper as Culters catalogue of injuries continued.
Cutter took the lead in fine style in the 23” minute when Graham Cadger
picked out Andy Sim and he sent in a perfect left foot cross which GORDON
FARMER rammed into the net with his head. A few minutes later Michael Towson
of the Buchan men pulled off a fine save from a Steve Rintoul effort.
Cutter dominated the early exchanges in the second half with Bruce Smith
picking out Andy Sim but his blistering volley whizzed just over. At the
other end Cutter survived a penalty care as Scott Martin’s free kick
appeared to strike Steve Rintoul on the arm before Bruce Smith flashed a
shot past the post. The Champs then sent on Peter Stewart and Martin Shand
for Graham Cadger and Bruce Smith and it was the second sub who almost found
the target from a Donny Adam pass. Midway through the half Peter Stewart set
up Martin Shand but this time Michael Towson, pulled of a first class save
as the ball hurtled towards the top corner. Gradually Maud came back into it
and were unfortunate to be denied a penalty when Scott Knox showed
hesitation in coming for a long ball and he clashed with Graham Coutts just
inside the area but once again play was waved on. In the dying minutes
Culter were deprived of a second by the woodwork when a bending Andy Sim
header smacked off the post and away to safety.
Culter: Knox, Sim, Rattray, Pressley, Cooper, Adam, Rintoul, Smith, Cadger,
McBain, Farmer, Subs: Stewart, Campbell, Craik, Shand, Thow.
