Culter have left themselves a mountain to climb if they are to retain the
Super League after disappointing defeat to league leaders Banks O’Dee. The
match was littered will controversial decisions whilst both teams failed to
produce much meaningful football.
Dee held the upper hand early on and stand in ‘keeper Scott Knox looked
nervous as he came for Richard Stainer cross but Ryan Pressley was on hand
to boot the ball to safety. A few moments latter Ryan Pressley miscued a
header but Murray Rattray spotted the danger and howked the b up the park.
With 6 minutes gone a superb Steve Rintoul free kick was met by Murray
Rattray b his header flashed just over before a corner from John Brown was
headed well wide by Mart Shand. The first of many contentious judgments
arrived from Referee G. Beaton in the 16m min when he pointed to the spot
following an Andy Sim tackle on Richard Scaiffe but the man in black showed
no mercy and gave a penalty. Richard Scaiffe dusted himself down and blasted
the b high past Scott Knox and into the bag. This appeared to galvanise a
strangely subdued Culter and some intricate play between Steve Rintoul and
Graham Cadger saw the latter turn in the box before unleashing a grounder
which Grant Pennant did well to hold low down. Culter almost grabbed
equaliser when Martin Shand charged down a poor Grant Pennant clearance but
fortunately for the ‘keeper the ball bounced the wrong way and the danger
was gone. A few minutes later Donny Adam tried his luck from well outside
the area but he contrived to lift the ball over the bar. Cohn Craik the
played a wall pass with Graham Cadger in the area but the midfielder’s
effort slithered wide of the target. Dee then dominated the rest of the half
without testing Scott Knox.
The Deesiders pressed from the off at the start of the second half with
Steve Rintoul finding Murray Rattray who banged the ball towards the goal
but Grant Pennant pulled off a fine save. Culter the sent on Peter Stewart
and Chris Mountford in place of Martin Shand and Graham Cadger in a attempt
to prise open the stuffy Dee defence and it should have paid dividends when
the Drumoak Dart was unceremoniously felled in the box following a piece of
wizardry but the ref had on his light and dark blue goggles and unbelievably
booked the Culter player for simulation. A shocking verdict Mike Ord then
came on for Steve Rintoul and he almost created the leveller when he head
flicked the ball onto Peter Stewart but with the goal at his mercy he
managed to flash the ball past the upright. At the other end the under
worked Scott Knox pulled off a fine stop in a rare Dee break away. In the
dying minutes Cohn Craik had a good opportunity to tie the match but again
the ball went high and mighty. In the last minute Ryan Pressley was shown
his second yellow for protesting yet another weird decision and was sent for
an early dook.

Goalkeeper Gloom. Culter incurred a goalkeeping crisis with the news
that Carson Riches had suffered a broken finger in last week’s match against
East End whilst Martin Pine was still out due to cruciate ligament. Manager
Bobby Gray was fortunate to be able to recall Scott Knox to help us out on
Friday night.
