Citylink Scottish Junior Cup 2nd Round - Culter 6 Nairn St Ninian 0 H -T 1- 0 Scorers': Farmer 24, Cadger 63, Mountford 75, 90, Stewart 80, Robertson (pen) 85.

Culter kept their astonishing cup runs going with an emphatic victory over Nairn St. Ninian in the 2nd  round of the Junior Cup. Manager Bobby Gray rang the changes for this game resting several of his senior players but it still proved far too much for the north side who suffered a second half collapse c monumental proportions.

It all started rather slowly for Culter until Bruce Smith struck a crisp shot which was saved by Ryan Main in the Nairn goal. Martin Shand had the ball in the net a few minutes later but it was chalked off for offside. Shand ha another chance moments later but this time the `keeper saved well. The Deesiders took a deserved lead in the 24 minute when a Gordon Farmer rocket flew past the `keeper and flashed into the net. Four minutes later Nairn could have equalised but Martin Pirie produced a fine save from a decent Callum McDonald effort. At the other end a Smith shot threatened to burst the side netting before John Brown and Farmer both had good attempt saved by Main. Close on half time Adam Wilson had a free kick chance which fizzled just over the bar.

Early in the second half Smith saw his crack at goal strike the post and rebound to safety. The home side went two up in the 63rd minute when a Brown cross was blocked by Angra Colletto but Graham Cadger was on hand - blast the ball into the net, Chris Mountford then came on for Cadger and before long he got his name on the score sheet when he bundled the ball across the line as Nairn threatened to collapse under the almost constant pressure. Farmer was then replaced by Steve Robertson before Nairn finally collapsed and it was Robertson who provided the ball for the final sub Peter Stewart who scored with a cute flick. Stewart then had another chance bi this time he headed wide from a Mountford cross. The fifth goal came soon after when Robertson was upended the box by Colletto and he stepped up to send the perfect spot kick past the despairing keeper. With time counting down to the final whistle Mountford added his second when he raced through the breached Nairn defence to send a fine victory with a neat finish.

Fan Fame.    On a personal note 1 was astounded to receive an Email from Ian "Kip" McKenzie all the way from his workplace in Yemen.          Ian informed me that I was BBC London's "Fan of the Week".            My photograph and "love affair with his local team" article on the BBC website told my Culter FC story from ballboy in the 1950s up to our historic Scottish Cup win against Hawick Royal Albert on 29th September 2007.

David's Disappointment Eric Duncan's Brother-in-Law David Patterson comes to watch us from time to time from his home in Banffshire. He witnessed our wonderful win against Vale of Leithen but was very disappointed to discover that in the course of the day he lost his wedding ring.     David was at The Seafield Club, at The Ploughman, at Crombie Park and at Culter Mills Social Club as one of Eric's special package guests.     Widower David hopes someone may yet find his ring which is of course of much sentimental value to him and if so he will reward the finder.

"Scottish" Shock.     The following is from the Vale of Leithen website:-

Vale of Leithen midfielder Richard Edge has been rushed to hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage. The 26 yearold is one of a quartet of players who signed for the club from Peebles FC during the summer, and it is the second ; spell at the club for him. Although he had failed to establish himself in the side during the 2003-04 season, he returned from three years at Peebles Rovers/Peebles FC a better player and has been a regular starter this season, playing the full 90 minutes of Saturday's Scottish Cup tie against Culter. He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after collapsing yesterday where his situation was described as serious but stable."         We wish Richard a speedy recovery.

FRIDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2007

Our 22nd Celebrity Dinner was again held in the same Hotel but under its new name - now Menzies Dyce Aberdeen Airport, formerly The Dyce Skean Dhu.

Organiser extraordinaire Eric J Duncan, for his 22nd time, once more did his outstanding work in arranging this function ably assisted by Doug Jamieson and Doug Milne whilst thankfully Margaret Davidson ably controlled the financial transactions during the very busy evening.

The attendance this year was 214 gentlemen as opposed to 206 last year.            A double decker special bus conveyed members, supporters and guests to the event via The Seafield Club. Top table guest was Evening Express Reporter Richard Easton.

Piper Robert Grant led the Top Table to their seats in the sparkling function room. President Doug Jamieson made another first class introductory speech, thought to be his best yet, I say that probably because he started off with kind words about me under football nickname "Tosi"!            I acquired the abbreviated name from Italian World Cup Player Albertosi during our Culter FC Caravan Holiday at Findhorn in 1974.    He went on to justifiably praise

Eric and Main Sponsor Doug Milne for their massive input.   Doug informed those present that Alex McLeish "cut his teeth" at our Dinners in his Aberdeen FC days and is now Scotland's manager.        He commented on the wonderful press publicity Culter FC are enjoying and thanked the management team of Bobby Gray, Gary Thow and Andy Gibson for their ongoing successes and in particular on reaching the 3rd Round of THE SCOTTISH CUP against Huntly on Saturday 24 November 2007, the biggest game in the Club's history which will be an all ticket match.   He also welcomed Dyce Juniors' main man, Norman MacKay, and congratulated him on his achievements at Dyce.

Compere Peter Mitchell in his inimitable style introduced the Guest Speaker Kenny Clark, Raconteur John McRuvie, Bobby Gray and Richard Easton.

Senior Committee Member Gordon Morrison's Grace was preceded by his poem composition: We're here again, turned out in force,     Good friends we're glad again to meet

to sample such delicious course  for a drop to drink and a bite to eat

that's set before us on our table    while once again we must report

which we'll enjoy as we are able  how much we value your support Gordon continued thereafter with his traditional rendering:

Gentlemen, The Selkirk Grace -    Graceful -      Some ha'e meat but canna eat     Gordon and some would eat but want it

but we ha'e meat and we can eat so let the Lord be thanket.

Congratulations go to the Hotel and their fine Staff on our customary meal which was even more delicious this year and the helpful friendly service was much appreciated by all. Referee Kenny Clark was a superb Guest Speaker and had the audience in stitches. His tales of refereeing at the very pinnacle of this difficult role were most entertaining.   Kenny very generously donated his fee to the charity of his choice - SCBU, Paisley.

John "Torry Battery" McRuvie had the unenviable task of following Kenny but he too had the place full of laughter with his local tales of Kincorth, Torry, Northsound and Pittodrie.

We are also most grateful to the glamorous girls Jennifer, Jenna, Laura, Margaret and Marianne plus chaperones and members who cajoled the gentlemen into purchasing more fund raising tickets than they intended!

"Heads and Tails" Winner. The winner of the £500 prize was Gordon Steele.
