Tom
Beagrie presents grandson Jaimje Baigrie (right) and John Brown of Culter
with their "Man of the Match" awards.

On a wet afternoon
Culter reversed last season's result at Davidson
Park, Longside. Longside
included 15 year old Jamie Beagrie in a young looking Longside team but it
was Cadger who started brightly side stepping two defenders before seeing
his cross just elude Mountford. Brown's 20-yard free kick was deflected wide
for a corner in 10 minutes then Reid blasted a similar free kick against
Cadger minutes later. Williams easily held Adam's snapshot and
Cadger then did well to beat Robertson but his cutback found no takers. In
the 23`d minute Craik went on a surging run that ended with his long-range
effort hitting the side netting. Another Brown free kick rattled the post
and the rebound fell to Mountford who skied over from close range. A mix up
in the Culter defence ended with McSeveney's effort being deflected by
Campbell for a corner. Wheeler's corner found Reid whose header came back
off the Culter crossbar to safety. Stewart's chip shot just cleared the bar
but the opener came in 37 minutes as Campbell's though ball was missed by
Williams and left ADAM the simplest task of
hammering the ball home from a yard. Brown almost doubled the away team's
lead but his effort from Christie's pinpoint cross-cleared the Longside
cross bar. Half Time: 0 - 1. Mountford should have scored just after
half time from close range and then a Wilson free kick scraped the post from
25 yards as Culter tried to kill the game. Brown again hit the side netting
with a 20-yard free kick before a poor punch by Williams left Christie's
cross being headed wide by Cadger. Shand's 20 yard free kick was parried
wide by the home `keeper but SHAND was not to be denied seconds later when
his shot from inside the box flew over the home `keeper and into the top
corner to put Culter two up in the 79th minute. Cadger and then Adam both
had efforts well saved by Williams as Culter continued to press and easily
hold out for three points.

Longside's Men of the
Match. The Longside Match Programme informed us that the Match Sponsor,
Gordon and Elaine Beagrie of the Red House Hotel, Cruden
Bay have connections with
Longside FC. Son Jamie signed for them at the beginning of this season and
Gordon himself also played for them in their amateur days, before going on
to play in the Highland League. Jamie's grandfather, Tom, also played
for Longside at right back in the 50s and 60s and was described as the
"Master of the sliding tackle".
It was no surprise and
so appropriate that 15 year old Jamie was announced as Longside's Man of the
Match whilst our rather older John Brown was their choice for Culter's Man
of the Match. They are pictured received their awards from Tom Beagrie.
Creeshie
Connection. My father was born at Creeshie Raw, Longside, as
was 75 year old Tom Beagrie. I had my father's old photos with me
yesterday and it included him and my grandmother in Creeshie Raw outside the
Thos Beagrie shop which had belonged to Tom's parents. Creeshie Raw no
longer exists, there are only the ivy covered remnants of the buildings. The
word 'creeshie' means greasy -Greasy Row -due to the shop making candles.

After our Lottery being won yesterday our Prize reverts to £1000 and Numbers
