Culter thrashed Turriff
in their opening home league game and Manager Bobby Gray gave a debut to new
keeper Carson Riches who had little to do in this one sided affair. There
was disappointment also as Andy Campbell was taken off with a hip injury and
skipper Murray Rattray was red carded late in the game.
The Deesiders set their
stall out early with Gordon Farmer wheeking down the wing but his parting
shot was high and mighty. Moments later Andy Cowell tried a dinky lob but
Stuart Gray held the ball easily. In the 9th minute Culter were awarded a
penalty when Jamie McKinnon appeared to upend Kevin Christie in the area and
John Brown stepped up to execute a clinical spot kick. A few minutes later
United burst upfield but Dave McKenzie headed wide from a decent Gary Harris
cross. At the other end the home side went further ahead when a right footed
Gordon Farmer snap shot zipped into the bottom comer of the net. Culter were
dealt a blow on the half hour mark when Andy Campbell was forced to retire
and he was replaced by Bruce Smith. Moments later United almost pulled one
back when a Jamie McKinnon free kick was slashed over his own bar by Adam
Wilson. With the half time whistle rapidly approaching Culter went further
ahead when a clever Martin Shand ball found Chris Mountford who turned
beautifully on the edge of the area before smashing a grounder past the
bemused United keeper.
Moments into the second
period Gordon Farmer burst down the left before sending a clinical strike
past the United stopper although the wing wizard appeared to control the
ball with his hand before darting into the box. The same player almost got
his hat trick a minute later but his header bulleted just wide from a John
Brown cross. The home side were on easy street with only 8 minutes of the
second half gone when Gordon Wallace bundled the ball into his own net
following a Culter comer. This signalled a change for Culter With Peter
Stewart replacing Chris Mountford and Phil McCall coming on for Donny Adam
however there was controversy when United's Leigh Henderson was shown a red
card for apparent remarks to the assistant referee. Not long after both
sides were reduced to ten men when Murray Rattray was sent for an early
shower for aiming a blow at a United player. Directly following the
dismissal Martin Shand had the ball in the net from a Peter Stewart pass but
he had drifted just offside. Culter were not finished yet and a wonderful
deep John Brown cross was tapped home from close range by Peter Stewart.
With time added on being played Kevin Christie gave away a penalty and Gary
Harris stepped up to earn United a consolation.

Sponsor's Success.
Congratulations to David Frith, one of our Advertising Sponsors, on winning
the Culter Mills Social Club Bowling Singles Championship. He beat Stanley
Black 21-18 in the Final on Sunday 26 August 2007.
Hawick Heading Here. The
magic moment came when Culter entered the Scottish Cup for the first time
and on Thursday 30 August 2007 we were favoured with a home draw against
South of Scotland team Hawick Royal Albert - a most appropriate name for me!
We received extensive Press and Television coverage of the occasion. Keen
supporter Tony Treasure was particularly pleased with the draw - his wife
was born in Hawick!
Dyce Drawn. The
Quarter Final Draw of the Grill League Cup resulted in an away tie against
Dyce Juniors. The semi final line-up is Turriff United or Stonehaven v Dyce
Juniors or Culter - subject to Stonehaven remaining in the contest allegedly
due to playing an ineligible player.
Playing Pool. We
welcome Goalkeeper Carson Riches to our squad from Banks o' Dee. Carson
made his debut yesterday and never put a foot wrong. He was unfortunate
not to keep a clean sheet - only to be beaten by an injury time penalty.
He made another good start by winning our After Match 20 "Choose Your Team"
Competition,
