Culter started with the
same eleven that defeated Parkvale last week and in the 3rd minute Shand
headed over a Greg Whyte corner. Culter were playing some good football but
it was Montrose who took the lead in the 12th minute. A long ball
from Page picked out Findwater whose cross was headed home at the back post
by C. WATSON from close range. Culter replied with a wild shot from Greg
Whyte and Shand was unlucky chasing a long ball from Morrison that was just
cut out by Paul Whyte. Christie and Greg Whyte then combined to set up
Stewart whose goal-bound effort was headed away by Miller. Shand headed past
the post before Greg Whyte sent over a driven low cross but there were no
takers. In 39 minutes McLeod had a great save from a Campbell header off a
Greg Whyte corner. Craib then saw his effort deflected over as Culter
searched for an equaliser. With half time approaching Montrose doubled their
advantage with Watson's corner being headed into the net by PAUL WHYTE.
Half Time: 2 - 0.
Montrose kicked off the
second half and straight away 5impson found Craig whose c,ross was again
headed home by C.WATSON. Culter did get back into the game in 50 minutes
when the home defence failed to clear a Greg Whyte cross and the ball fell
to SHAND whose blistering volley from 22 yards gave the `keeper no chance.
Calder was then unlucky to see his shot go agonizingly over the bar. A break
away from Watson saw his cross-cum-shot come back off the post and was
cleared to safety by Campbell. Ord and Craik replaced Greg Whyte and
Morrison after 68 minutes had been played. With Culter attacking in the 715t
minute Referee Dalgetty controversially stopped the game to consult his
Assistant, he then booked Pirie and awarded a free kick 19 yards out from
the Culter goal. Simpson played the ball across the box to Findwater whose
shot crashed off the upright. Smith then replaced Calder. It was then
Simpson's turn to see his effort rebound off the post in 77minutes but
Montrose were not to be denied. C. Watson passed to Simpson who squared the
ball to E. WATSON who couldn't miss from 6 yards. Pirie then produced a
great save to deny Findwater in the 83rd minute. Shand, Stewart, Smith and
Ord all tried their luck in the closing minutes without testing the home
`keeper.

Parkvale Players.
In last week's Bulletin it was reported that the Parkvale side included
former Culter players Marc Small and David Neish. I have since
discovered that another former Culter player was in their line-up - Greg
Davidson who scored Parkvale's goal. Greg joined Culter at the start of the
2000/01 season and was transferred to FC Stoneywood in August 2005.
