After a spell of games
full of pressure but lacking in goals Culter hit Parkvale for six. League
leaders Stonehaven lost to Sunnybank so Culter are now only one point behind
them with 4 games in hand. Culter had disappointingly drawn 1 - 1 with
Parkvale in our league game at Crombie Park on Tuesday 22 August then had
also pummelled Parkvale 6 - 1 in the Grill League Cup 1/4 Final at
Culter on Saturday 28 October 2006. Parkvale again featured former Culter
players Marc Small & David Neish.
Culter went in front in
only the 3rd minute. A Campbell free kick was cut back by Craib to SHAND
who scored from inside the 6 yard box at the second attempt.
Parkvale attempted to respond when Brooks tried his luck with a long-range
effort that was blocked by Rattray. Calder broke free in the next minute but
his cross for Shand was well cut out by
Hopkins. Culter went two
up when a quick corner by Whyte found Stewart whose pinpoint cross was
headed into the net by CRAIB. Neish was first in the Referee's book
for a late challenge on Rattray. Parkvale pulled a goal back in 20
minutes, good play by Brooks ended with a fierce shot that was blocked by
Christie and the ball broke to Neish whose cross was turned in by DAVIDSON
from close range. Hopkins then punched clear a Craib lob before Cowell carpe
close with a long-range effort that flew inches over. A driven free kick by
Davidson saw Small's header go inches wide of the post. Good play by
Calder and Shand set up Stewart who was unlucky to see his shot go
agonizingly past the post. Calder then tried his luck from 30 yards, again
the ball just going over. In the 38th minute Calder's cross was spilled by
the home `keeper into the path of SHAND who drove the ball home.
Whyte's ccrner tc Ster:art found Shand whose header was saved at point blank
range by Hopkins. Two minutes from half time Shand did well to force Long
into a mistake, the ball broke to Stewart whose 16 yard shot was saved by
Hopkins. The ball appeared to be going over the line but SHAND ran in to
hammer the ball into the net to complete his hat trick. Neish had a great
chance to pull one back just on half time but blasted over from close range.
Half Time: 1 - 4.
Culter started the
second half as they finished the first, good play by Stewart and Calder
ended with CALDER unleashing a great 22 yard shot that flew past Hopkins and
into the net via the crossbar. Cowell then had a try from distance only for
Hopkins to push his strike round
the post. Keith saw his shot came back off the base of the post
in the 54th minute. Neish then shot past from 10 yards and in the
next minute the same player shot wide of the post. Pirie had to be alert to
cut out a dangerous Horne cross as Parkvale tried to get a consolation goal.
It was Culter however who came closest when Whyte's cross found Craib, the
ball then broke to Campbell whose shot was cleared off the line by Glash.
Stewart then robbed Smith of the ball only to see his shot comfortably
saved. Craib headed down a cross to Whyte who was bundled off the ball by
Smith in 77 minutes. CAMPBELL stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way
from the penalty spot. Sim won the ball in midfield and passed to
Stewart only to see his chip drift wide. Cowell then did well to cut out a
dangerous Neish cross then Pirie followed this by diving to punch away a
Keith cross. Long was cautioned in the last minute for dissent.
