Stewart Snatches Success

Soccer World Super League: Glentanar 1 v Culter 2 (at Woodside Sports Complex, Aberdeen) HT: 0 - 0. Glentanar Scorer: MacLaren (49 mins). Culter Scorers: Shand (49 mins) & Stewart (93 mins)

Culter made hard work in securing three points against a poor Glentanar team. In a match where they had most of the possession it took a Stewart goal in the 93rd minute to clinch the win.

In the 2nd minute Craib found Stewart who rounded the keeper 25 yards out but Esslemont cleared his cross. Culter had the ball in the net in their next move when Christie thought he had scored following good work from Craik but the linesman had already flagged. Stewart blasted the ball well over the bar and then past the post as the one way traffic continued. In 18 minutes Culter at last had a shot on target, Campbell passed to Stewart but his shot was easily saved. A cross from Craik came off the post and off a defender for a corner; from the corner Shand blasted over from 10 yards. Shand then supplied a cross for Calder whose header flashed wide. Pirie was at last called into action in the 26th min when he held MacLaren's cross come shot. MacLaren fouled Stewart but Rattray's free kick was easily held by Winton. Calder then went on a run that took him past three defenders and into the box only to be thwarted by a last gasp challenge by Hay. In a rare Glentanar attack Campbell cleared a dangerous McBain cross at the second attempt.         Half Time: 0 - 0.

Cowell headed away a swirling Smith free kick before Pirie easily held onto a shot from McBain. In the 49th minute Pirie Could do nothing as McBain cut the ball back into the path of Mac! AREN whc.~ slotted the ball home from 8 yards. Culter replied with Stewart weaving his way into the box only to see his shot cannon into a ruck of defenders. Good play down the left from Culter ended with Whyte playing the ball into the box, then there were shots from Smith and Stewart before the ball landed in front of SHAND who placed the ball past the keeper in 54 minutes. Stewart chipped over the bar then Cowell sent the ball to Whyte whose shot was cleared by Johnston. Glentanar had a rare attack in 65 minutes when Strachan shot wide. Christie had claims for a penalty turned down after being fouled by Aitchison. Referee Henderson then stopped the game to book Fraser in the Glentanar dugout for dissent. A 20-yard free kick from Stewart was deflected into the path of Calder who netted from close range only for the referee to rule offside. Just when the game seemed to be heading for a draw Culter scored the winner in the 3rd minute of injury time, Christie headed the ball to Whyte whose cross found STEWART and he took one touch before firing the ball past Winton. The referee still had time to caution Stewart Sim in the last minute of injury time.
