Culter started off the
New Year with a welcome win over Dyce Juniors. This victory atoned for the
Dyce drubbing when the newly promoted side devastated us with a 5 - '0
Soccer World Super League win at Crombie Park on Saturday 26 August 2006 to
record the shock result of the day.
In the absence of
regular reporter Ian "Kip" McKenzie, Gus Johnstone deputised with his first
ever match report as reproduced below. Ian phoned me from Libya last night
to find out our result.
Dyce kicked off into
the sun but it was Culter who were first to threaten when Horne had to be
quick off his line to clear a long Pirie though ball and then Sim headed
wide a Rattray free kick. Some trickery from Stewart left three Dyce
defenders trailing but the home keeper easily saved his shot. More smart
play from Stewart found Craik whose cross was easily held by Horne, at this
point Cook was stretchered off after falling awkwardly and was replaced by
Jamieson. A mistake by Campbell gifted Edene a chance but his final ball
failed to find Ellis. Dyce were now coming more into the game and a
Milne free kick on the half hour mark was headed over by McHattie from six
yards, then Rattray had a well-timed tackle on Jamieson as he closed in on
goal. Culter `keeper Pirie was first in the book for dissent in 39 min$ and
in the next minute the same player had to tip away a goal-bound header from
McHattie. At the other end Shand headed over a Stewart free kick. With half
time approaching Rattray blocked a Rhain Duff shot on the line then Shand
had claims for a penalty turned away by Referee McNab.
Half Time- 0 - 0.
Culter came out more
determined and straight away Calder and Shand combined well to set up
Stewart but his chip was parried wide by Horne. Pirie then had to
look smart to hold onto a Hutchins drive. Presslie was next in the referee's
book for dissent. Stewart free kick from 20 yards was well saved by Horne.
Dyce had a great chance to take the lead but again Pirie got down well to
deny Hutchins. In 57 minutes Culter had their best chance to go in front
when Shand sent Calder though but his cross meant for Smith found the
`keeper instead. Another Stewart shot was blocked in the box with Culter
claiming for a penalty. Craib replaced Smith before Dyce also had claims for
a penalty when Ellis went down in the box. Ex Culter player Mike Fraser
replaced first half sub Jamieson but it was Culter who went into the lead
when STEWART scored direct from a corner in the 65th minute. Whyte replaced
Craik with Culter now well on top and Shand should have made the game safe
after rounding the 'keeper but his cross was easily cleared. Cowell
then replaced Calder. Good passing from Presslie and Sim resulted in Shand
blasting the ball high over the Dyce bar. Culter finally made the points
safe in 83 minutes after being awarded a penalty - Cowell's cross found
Craib at the back post who was knocked to the ground by `keeper Horne and
CAMPBELL stepped up to make no mistake from the spot.

On Saturday 12 January 2002, Culter lost their 4th Round OVD Scottish Junior
Cup Tie going down 2 - 1 to Bathgate Thistle at Bathgate. Match
Reporter was Gordon Morrison and his report for the Green Final was
headlined "McRitchie is the hero and villain". Neil McRitchie gave Culter a
flying start when he shot us ahead in the 2nd minute. Murphy
equalised for Bathgate in the 9th minute. Midway through the 2nd half Neil
had a great chance to put Culter ahead but his penalty was tipped over the
bar in fine fashion by `keeper Balfour. Culter paid dearly for this miss in
85 minutes when Bathgate substitute Hayton scored the winner. Culter:

McRitchie, Hendry, Rattray; Subs: Girvan, Davidson, Gibb, Clinton, Stewart.
