Tuesday 14th November Grill League Cup Semi-Final

Culter, the holders, bowed out at the semi final stage of the Grill League Cup at Hillhead in a game they totally dominated. The home side had two shots on goal and scored with them both and in the sudden death penalty shoot out the home side edged the Deesiders out 4-3 with Ryan Presslie and Andy Sim missing the vital kicks for Culter.

Culter started strongly with Peter Stewart forcing a save from Kerr and from the ensuing corner by Gordon Farmer Martin Shand had a shot which was booted away to safety. A few minutes later Lewis of 'Head crossed for McKenzie but his header was poor and bounced behind for a goal kick. Kevin Christie then went on a fantastic run for Culter but his parting shot when high and mightily over the bar. The Cup Holders were stunned in the 12th minute when McKenzie laid back to Lewis and he took the ball in his stride before unleashing a bosker into the top corner. Not to be outdone Culter replied a few minutes later when a deep curling ball from Andy Cowell was superbly controlled by Murray Rattray lurking at the back post and he showed all his experience before slotting the ball home with his right foot. Culter were shocked in the 21S' minute when Skinner, in a seemingly offside position, had the presence of mind not to wait for the whistle and he produced the perfect lob to give Hillhead the advantage again. Culter pressurised for the remainder of the half and despite numerous chances they failed to trouble Kerr in the Hillhead goal.

The Deesiders started in determined fashion in the second half and were denied a clear cut penalty decision when Sievewright handled in the box following an Andy Cowell attempt but the Referee Henderson was unsighted and waved play on. Culter kept plugging away but were once again denied when an Andy Campbell shot was deflected and Kerr produced a fine save before an Andy Campbell header from a Gordon Farmer cross was firmly headed home to bring the game level in the 57th minute. Culter were totally committed to attack now but as much as they tried they could nut breach the resolute 'Head defence and sub Andy Sim should have scored near the end but his flailing effort struck two defenders before being cleared. In the penalty shoot 'Head won 4-3 to leave a final tie against Turriff United.

Culter: Pirie; Cowell, Rattray, Calder, Campbell, Presslie, Morrison (Sim 65), Stewart (Craib 86), Shand (Ord 75), Christie, Farmer.

Saturday 18th November Soccer World Super League

Culter drew their second league game on the trot against `Hive who went up early doors and once again they dominated the match but failed to produce a result that the position demanded. `Hive must rate as one of the most boring teams in the league with their negative attitude to entertainment always relying on Martin Foy to get them out of a hole. On this occasion it almost didn't work for the team that have become draw specialists.

The early encounters were dominated by Culter but T. Robertson' produced a perfect lob which looped over Martin Pirie and into the net in the 5th minute. Culter came back and a Gordon Farmer cross was headed wide by Dave Calder. The Deesiders should have taken the lead soon after when keeper Stubbs spilled a Farmer try but the Culter forwards were too slow in reacting to the chance. Andy Cowell and Andy Sim then combined to let in Colin Graik but his attempt was woefully inadequate. Ryan Presslie then tried his luck but his shot only troubled the large crowd. The Deesiders continued to completely strangle the `Hive side but the lack of fit strikers seemed to hamper them.

At the start of the second period Culter continued where they left off and were rewarded in the 50th minute when a Gordon Farmer cross took a slight deflection and Martin Shand was on hand to rap the ball home at the far post. Try as they might to get the winner Culter had to settle for a point despite Murray Rattray rattling the bar from a free kick with 5 minutes left to play.

Culter: Pirie; Cowell, Craib, Calder, Rattray, Presslie, Sim, Shand, Ord, Craik, Farmer; Substitutes: Stewart, Mountford, McRitchie, Morrison, Knox.
