Holders, Culter progressed to the Semi Finals of the Grill League Cup with a comprehensive victory over their Super League opponents Parkvale who featured former players Marc Small and David Neish. The first half was closer that the score suggested and `Vale can find themselves a little aggrieved about going in 3-1 down at the interval. The second period was all one way traffic with the Deesiders completely dominating proceedings as `Vale capitulated. Culter started on the ascendancy when Gordon Farmer let in Paul Morrison but his shot was howked away at the expense of a throw in. A minute later Duncan Ord fed Farmer but David Neish got down well to make a decent save. Neish was called into action twice in the space of as many minutes when he collected a decent Murray Rattray cross then a Chris Mountford attempted deep pass. Duncan Ord then found himself clear at the back post and got in a header but he had drifted offside. In the 10th minute some neat interchanging play between Dave Calder and Mountford came to nought as 'Vale struggled to stem the tide. The opener was not long in coming a superb, ball by Calder found Mountford deep in the area and he had enough time to bring the ball down and bury the ball behind Neish. Right from the restart `Vale had a chance when the impressive Kevin Neish was allowed an opportunity but his parting shot was weak and Martin Pirie saved with ease. The home side doubled their tally in the 15 minute when a great run and cross was turned in at the neat post by a juUlant Ord who got to the ball ahead of keeper Neish. 'Vale were thrown a lifeline just 4 minutes later following a corner when a big stramash in the box ended up with Steve Buchanan firing the ball home after Pirie had almost performed heroics with a first c:ass save. The visitors had a chance to equalise when K. Neish pulled the ball back to Jim Smith but his shot flew well wide. With half an hour gone `Vale had another decent opening when Darren Keith set up Martyn Brooks but he slid, the ball wide of the post. The Findon side had their tails up now and only a top drawer save from Pirie denied K. Neish the second equaliser. Culter then went on a rampaging break when Farmer flew down the left before sending in an inch perfect ball to Calder who had burst a gut getting into the box and the wee midfielder slid the ball home under D. Neish. Minutes later Mountford went on a run but his fizzling effort zipped just wide. `Vale were not out of it yet and Brooks was unlucky to see his curling effort spin wide of Pirie's left hand post. Vale tried to get back into it at the resumption when a Keith Horn cross was intercepted by Ryan Presslie at the expense of a corner but this was about the fast time the visitors has a sniff of goat as Culter steeped up the ante when Farmer put the tie beyond doubt with a classic finish from inside the box. Peter Stewart came on for Mountford immediately after and he provide a cross for Andy Campbell who had his header saved by Neish. Ord then had a terrific &nce from a Stewart push through but he blazed the ball over from well inside the area. With `Vale claiming offside Stewart sped free and he dazzled Neish in the visitors' goal before sliding the ball into the empty net. Andy Sim then replaced Morrison as Culter went seeking a sixth and soon after Danny Craib came on for skipper Rattray but it was Stewar t who almost added to the tally from a free kick but this time Neish reacted to bring off a decent save. Calder might have added his second late on following good work from Sim and Ord but he contrived to miss the ball deep in the box. With time ticking down Sim fed Stewart and this time he picked out Ord close to goal and he squeezed the ball under Neish for the final counter in a remarkable cup tie.
