Culter progressed to the 3rd Round of the
Inter Regional Cup with a goal in each half against our Dundee opponents
Downfield. We were favoured with a fine afternoon after the recent dismal
days of downpours. Morrison sent over a good crossball from the right flank
in the 2"d minute but there were no takers. A minute later a Farmer shot
went narrowly over the bar. After 4 minutes had been played Allan fouled
Morrison as he raced through but Morrison's resultant free kick proved
fruitless. Two minutes afterwards Calder forced a corner. Ord slipped the
ball through to Mountford to give him a good chance but Goalkeeper Fordyce
came to Downfield's rescue in the 9t'' minute. Downfield gained a
corner in the 16th minute. Soon after the comer a Cougan header went
narrowly past the upright. After a great run by FARMER he lofted the ball
over outrushing Fordyce to open the scoring in the 20t' minute.
Next minute a dangerous Wilson free kick was headed clear by
Christie. A Thompson free kick was gathered high in the air by Pirie
in 23 minutes. A minute Iater:Ord sent the ball through to Morrison who cut
it hard across but his cross was ably clutched by Fordyce. Mountford's
work gained a 25th minute corner. attray failed to connect properly with
Farmer's corner and his try went past. In Culter's goalmouth Christie mis-hit
to give McLauchlin a close range chance in 28 minutes but the ball was
scrambled past for a corner. On the half hour mark 4rd was booked for
dissent. A couple of minutes later Cowell headed clear a
Wilson free kick. Gougan was
yellow-carded by Referee Milne in 35 minutes, also for dissent. Calder
neatly cleared a dangerous Downfield attack in the 36th minute. Five minutes
before the break ;tllcLauc"i!i^ ,s4rnt down i^ the bv:-, after a Campbell
tackle with Downfield appealing in vain for a penalty. In the 41 St
minute a strong Farmer shot flashed past the far upright. After good play by
Culter an inviting Morrison cross was headed away from Ord by Tovey. H Time
1 - 0.
Payne replaced Davidson after the interval.
In the opening minute of the 2"d half Culter had a let off when a Stewart
free kick went to McLauchlin who missed a great close range chance by
shooting past the far post. Lawson was brought on as substitute for Allan
after 56 minutes had been played and five minutes later Shand was fielded in
place of Mountford. A 65th minute Payne free kick from a dangerous
position was headed clear by Christie. Two minutes afterwards Shand
passed to Calder whose try was blocked by Fordyce. Both sides made
substitutions in the 70th minute with Stewart coming on for Ordand Lunnan
replacing Carlton. Next minute Culter were awarded a free kick and a
superb STEWART strike flashed into the far top corner of the net - a great
goal. Next minute a disgruntled Downfield side lapsed into an
off-the-ball melee with Cowell being knocked to the ground but unsighted
Referee Milne could do nothing about it in the absence of official Assistant
4ferees to guide him. A good 74th minute Stewart try resulted in a good
Fordyce save. A minute later a high Farmer free kick was ably taken
by Fordyce. Craib was next substitute to be utilised in place of
Morrison in the 80th minute. Wilson was booked for belting
the ball away in 81 minutes. Pirie did well to block a Stewart drive
then deflect Lawson's try off the loose ball for an 84th minute corner. An
86' minute Stewart corner went to Rattray whose raging drive was tipped over
by Fordyce for another corner. Next minute a goal-bound Farmer free
kick was turned past for yet another corner. Final Score: Culter 2 v
