Culter
did away with Dyce in an entertaining match at Crombie Park. The
Deesiders have to thank Murray Rattray for putting them at the top of
the section with two headed goals in the second half.
Culter started like a house on fire
with a sweeping move culminating in Shand missing a sitter from close
range. Still within the 15` minute Farmer had a
blistering effort saved acrobatically by former Culter custodian Horne.
With 5 minutes gone Dyce had yet to mount an attack but Smith of Culter
had a stinger flash wide with Horne beaten. Moments later another former
Culter player, Edene, attempted a shot but his effort went out for throw
in. Horne came to the rescue again in the 13th minute when he saved well
from Morrison's effort: The Deesiders were totally dominant at this
stage but could not find the target. They had an opportunity when
Morrison was felled on the edge of the area but Farmer's effort was
somewhat lacking in pace and accuracy. Dyce almost snuck one in the 35th
minute but a snap shot from Webster flew straight at the Culter keeper.
With half time approaching Farmer had another try from a Morrison pass
but again he failed to get the ball between the sticks. Shand also had a
try on the whistle but Horne was equal to the long range attempt.
The Cup holders continued to take the
game to the newly promoted Dyce and the goal that they were desperate to
get came in the 54th minute when Rattray rose at the back post to send a
header in off the bar from a Morrison comer. Home was once again the
hero for the visitors when he saved well from a Calder effort as Culter
looked to build on the lead. Culter went two up in the 67th minute when
Home and D. Jack got in a fankle and Rattray pounced to bullet a header
home from all of half a yard.
Culter then sent on Stewart for
McRitchie but it was Edene who should have reduced the deficit but
his-tame effort nestled on the roof of the net. Culter were on easy
street by the 74th minute when a swerving Farmer cross was thrashed home
by Morrison from the edge of the six yard box. Farmer and Calder were
replaced by Craib and Glass in the last few minutes but there was little
other action at either end.

August 2006
Un a
cool, very windy afternoon at Cruden Bay which was typical weather for
our visits to Bayfield, the 1St Division side shocked Culter with a 1 -
0 lead at the interval. Holders Culter, with 2nd half wind
assistance, ran out comfortable winners but scorned numerous chances to
boost their goal difference which may yet be crucial..
Culter were stunned in the 3rd minute
when Cruden Bay opened the scoring with a freak goal. Goalkeeper
SPIERS wind assisted kick from his charge bounced over the shocked
Martin Pirie into the net. Spiers dived to save a Stewart shot in 6
minutes. Three minutes later Pirie fisted out a dangerous high ball.
Former Culter player Mike Fraser was booked in the 11th
minute for a wild tackle on Christie. A couple of minutes afterwards
Stewart cut the ball across to Shand whose try was blocked for a corner.
Next to go into Referee Johnston's book was Bay's Jack in 23 minutes.
Two minutes later Jack's corner was too hard and went out of play at the
far side. Next minute at the other end Christie was intercepted by
Fraser who turned the ball out for a corner. In 28 minutes Stewart sent
the ball over to Morrison then it broke to Shand who failed to connect
at close range. On the half hour mark Farmer crossed to Shand but
'keeper Spiers dived at his feet to save. A minute later Culter were
awarded a free kick but gave away possession and a Cruden Bay snapshot
went just over the bar. Next Cruden Bay player to be booked was Smith
for felling Christie a minute before the interval.
Half Time: Cruden Bay 1 Culter 0.
Culter kicked off after the break
with strong wind assistance and had only 4 minutes to wait for the
equaliser. Farmer crossed to SHAND whose diving header levelled the
score. Two minutes after the ball was swung across to CHRISTIE who shot
Culter ahead. In 54 minutes Craig went down injured and was replaced by
Anderson. At this stage McRitchie was fielded in place of Craik. In the
58th minute Stewart fired the ball across the goalmouth and Goalkeeper
Spiers did well to hold Cooper's mis-kicked clearance from being an own
goal. After good play by Shand he crossed to McRITCHIE who hit the ball
into the net after 64 minutes had been played. A couple of minutes later
a Cruden Bay free kick went wide. After a fine run by Stewart he gave
McRitchie a clear chance but his "sclaff" went past in 67 minutes. This
was followed by Glass coming on as substitute for Farmer.A great shot by
Cowell was stopped by a good Spiers save in 69 minutes. Three minutes
afterwards Pirie turned a Cruden Bay shot past for a
corner. Cruden Bay then brought on Pirie
for Skene and Culter fielded Milne in place of Morrison with 76 minutes
on the clock. Next minute a McRitchie header went wide and soon after
a Shand shot was saved by Spiers. Culter's Smith missed a "sitter"
when he was clean through but his 80th minute shot was held by Spiers.
SHAND was next to be through but he made no mistake in 83 minutes to net
our 4th goal. Next minute in a goalmouth scramble Pirie the last minute
of normal time a strong Bruce Smith drive was turned over the bar by
Spiers. In injury time Glass had a great chance but his shot hit the
post. In the last minute Clayton was through but shot straight at
Pirie.
