Forres Friendly Deadlock

Culter 1 Forres Mechanics 1 H-T 1-1 Scorers: Culter - Gordon Farmer 10. Forres Marco DeBarros 31

Culter prepared for the defence of the Soccer World Super League crown and the Grill League Cup with a draw against Highland League Forres Mechanics who were recently managed by former Dons boss Steve "Pele" Paterson. The Deesiders paraded new signings Andy Campbell who was at the heart of defence and Danny Miine who had to be content with a place on the bench.

Culter started well with the rejuvenated Peter Stewart shooting wide. The junior side took the lead when Colin Craik wriggled clear on the right before sending in an inch perfect ball to Gordon Farmer who bulleted a header into the roof of the net. For the next period Culter looked the more likely but scorned several chances but it was the visitors who equalised when Marco De Barros sprang the offside trap to side foot the ball under Martin Pirie in the Culter goal.

The second half was an evenly contested affair with both teams using a raft of substitutions but the Can Cans were awarded a penalty when Andy Thain pulled a Huntly forward in the box but Sean Scott's effort was well saved by Martin Pirie. Late on Gordon Farmer almost added a second but his blazing drive was brilliantly saved by the Forres custodian.

Culter: Pirie, Sim, Glass, Pressley, Campbell, Smith, Calder, Stewart, McRitchie, Craik, Farmer. Subs: Milne, Thain, Morrison, Christie, Rattray

Referee: Steven Duff

Dick Brown Memorial Trophy. Assistant Team Manager Lee O'Brien won this Award, presented annually to the member who has done most for the Club over the past season Lee recorded a narrow victory with no fewer than 10 different members receiving votes. Lee joined us as a Player in 2001 and we were pleased to retain his services in Team Management in which has done a great job.

Player of the Year - Larry Barclay Trophy.       Kyle Scott was a clear-cut winner. Kyle, in his first season with Culter, was signed as a striker but reverted to defence. He was outstanding in this role - a tower of strength throughout our successful season.

Gordon's Gordons Gift. Senior Committee Member Gordon Morrison completed 40 years service on Culter FC's Committee.  I wrote to Gordon on 6.6.66 inviting him to join us and still have his reply of acceptance which was sent to me by return post. Gordon has given excellent service over all these years and is still invaluable in his work as our Lottery Treasurer and with his words of wisdom at our Committee Meetings. Gordon was a former Culter FC player in the 1950s and served on the Committee since 1966 in a variety of capacities including being Club President from 1969/70 to 1976/77.    Gordon was surprised at our Season End Function by being presented with a Bottle of Gordon Highlanders Whisky.
