Formartine Felled

Soccer World Super League - Formartine United 0 Culter 3 H-T 0-2 Scorers: Craik 7, Calder 33, Ord 76

Tuesday 23 May 2006.         Culter overcame their cup conquerors in an enthralling finale to their season. In a nice gesture United manager, Dave Cormie, lined up his team and backroom , staff plus match officials to welcome the Champions onto the pitch.

The Deesiders started in top gear when a smart move involving Shand, Sim and Ogboke ended up with Binnie intercepting at the last second. Moments later a long United free kick was needlessly headed behind for a comer by Scott. Culter went ahead in the 7th minute after a sweeping move when Ogboke set up McRitchie and his dink was parried upwards by Christie and fell kindly for Craik who bundled the ball home. United did try to get back into it but Finlater's parting shot flew well over. At the other end Ogboke sent in a whipping cross but Craik was just too late in arriving and the ball went behind for a goal kick. Shand then had a run across the box and sent in a powerful shot but Calder got in the way-of the goalbound attempt. Play then swept down the field and Pirie_did well to tip a ferocious McLeod volley over for a comer. Two minutes later the Champions went further ahead when Ggboke :fed ;raik who turned before pinging a ball into the area and Calder won the race for the ball and scored Ma the base of the post: In the 35th minute the titlehotders should have gone further ahead when Rattfay took a quick free: kick to McRitchie but the hitman pushed his shot -wide when free on goal. Culter continued to dominate the last few minutes of the period but could not add to their tally.

United came out for the second period in fighting mood and won a series of corners but they could not find--a way -past the resolute -Culter rearguard. Ogboke then had a chance at the other end but Christie pulled off a good save at the expense of a corner. Ord then came on for Shand but it was Craik who almost added a third but once again Christie denied him. Calder was replaced by Glass and Cameron came on for Ogboke as Culter rang the changes but it was Ord who added the third after Scott picked up McRitchie who turned well in the box before unselfishly passing to the sub who poked the ball home. Culter kept pushing and Sim was unlucky when his deep cross was handled well by Christie. Ord almost added the fourth in the dying minutes when he ran onto an Cameron chip but his rapier like shot smashed against the post and rebounded to safety.

Culter: Pirie, Sim, Rattray, Calder, Scott, Smith, Ogboke, Shand, McRitchie, Christie, Craik. Subs: Ord, Farmer, Glass, Cameron, Cowell.

Referee: A Lovie.
