The pre-match Press & Journal Junior
Football column was headlined "Culter target some revenge" after Ellon
United had beaten Culter 3 - 2 at The Meadows, Ellon on 3 September 2005 and
revenge was duly reaped. After a wet morning we were favoured with a sunny
afternoon.
An 8th minute Morrison corner
was gathered on the goal-line by `keeper Farquhar as Ogboke tried to connect
at close range. Two minutes later Chapman's comer was parried and held by
Pirie. Next minute Ogboke his the ball across the Ellon goalmouth but there
were-no-takers and it broke-to Farmer whose
shot was blocked for a comer.in17 minutes Craik
slipped the ball neatly to OGBOKE who shot into the far corner of the net
for a fine opening goal. Craik passed to Farmer whose crossball from the
left wing beat Goalkeeper Farquhar but hit the far upright in 22 minutes.
Next minute McCraw was booked for a
foul.Pressly's resultant free kick was held by Farquhar. A high 27th
minute ball into-the goalmouth was well caught by Goalkeeper Pirie. In 29
minutes a good try by Ogboke vvas thwarted by a great save by Farquhar.
On the half hour mark Allan replaced Thain
who had suffered a groin injury. Ellon came close in 39 minutes when a
dangerous cross into Culter's goalmouth was headed narrowly past by former
Culter player Craigie. Two minutes later Craigie crossed and Pirie just
failed to connect. A minute before the interval a superb Ogboke cross was
powerfully headed home by RATTRAY to give Culter a comfortable 2 - 0 lead at
the break.
A 54th minute Allan free kick
was headed past by Ogboke. In the 62nd minute a Morrison comer
was headed off the Ellon goal-line by Marwick. A couple of minutes
afterwards the same player Marwick was booked for a foul on Rattray. A 67th
minute McCraw free kick was headed over by striker Pirie. Next minute Whyte
replaced Marwick. Off a 69th minute Allan free kick a Shand
back-header went wide. A minute later Whyte was spoken to by Referee
Johnston for a foul on Allan. A 72nd minute cross into Culters goalmouth was
put wide of keeper Pirie by WHYTE to reduce the leeway with Culter appealing
vainly for offsides. In 74 minutes Ogboke was breaking through but was
intercepted by Spence and went down in a collision with Farquhar then limped
off. Rattray and Craigie were both booked following a clash at the brink of
Cutters penalty box after 78 minutes had been played. At this stage Ogboke
came back on then Craigie's free kick was blocked by Cutters defensive
wall. A dangerous cross into Culters goalmouth in 80 minutes was headed out
for a comer by Christie. Next minute Smith replaced Craik. After a great 83
minute run by Calder he cut the ball in to Shand whose low shot towards the
corner of the net was deflected past by a defender for a corner. In 84
minutes Farmer hit the ball across the Ellon goalmouth and OGBOKE knocked it
into the corner of the net to restore Culter's two goal lead. Immediately
afterwards a long range Smith drive went over the crossbar. McRitchie came
on as substitute for Ogboke in the 86tth minute. In the last
minute Pine fisted out a free kick and Ellon's try off the loose ball went
out for a corner, followed by another corner which proved fruitless. In
injury time a Farmer try from well out was tipped over the bar by Farquhar.
