In only four minutes a Morrison cross was
headed beautifully into the top comer of the net by SHAND to open the
scoring - a great goal. In the 7th minute a strong long range Rattray
drive went over the bar. Two minutes later `keeper Will produced a good
save to stop a good Stewart try.
After 12 minutes had been played another
Stewart shot was comfortably held by Will. Pirie raced out to snatch the
ball away from Lobban's feet in 18 minutes. Three minutes afterwards a
Farmer free kick was fisted out by Will. A 26th minute Stewart comer went
beyond reach of Culter's attackers. Next minute a good through ball from
Scott was directed towards Shand but Will dived to collect. In a 36th
minute Turriff raid Lobban shot narrowly past. Next minute Pirie was fouled
as he dived to stop the ball at Chalmers' feet and the Turriff forward
earned a lecture from Referee Robertson. Wight earned a booking in 39
minutes, apparently for dissent. Five minutes before the interval Robertson
broke through but Will dived at his feet to save. Two fruitless Farmer comers
followed prior to the break.
Half Time:
Turriff United 0 v Culter 1.
Two minutes after the restart a dangerous
ball into Culter's goalmouth was headed out by Scott. In the 50th minute
Henderson was booked for a deliberate handball. Next minute Stewart came oh
so close when his chip shot went narrowly past the far post. A 54th minute
Rattray free kick went high over the bar. A minute later a Stewart try was
deflected back to `keeper Will. Pirie held a 57th minute
Lobban effort. On the hour mark a Stewart free kick went tantalisingly
across the Turriff goalmouth but there were no takers. Immediately after
McLeod went through but his shot was comfortably held by Pirie. A 62"d
minute Henderson free kick was clutched high in the air by Pirie as McKenzie
went racing in to try and obtain advantage. A couple of minutes later Calder
sent a fine ball to Stewart whose high shot was easily held by Will. A 65th
minute Chalmers free kick from a dangerous position was headed out by Scott.
Pirie tried to knock out a crossball but it broke to LOBBAN who crashed in
the equaliser in 68 minutes. Off a 71st minute Henderson corner a Turriff
try was heading towards the corner of the net but was cleared off the
goal-line by Robertson. Next minute a Henderson drive was tipped past the
post by a diving Pirie save. A cracking 78th minute Shand volley went
narrowly past the far post. Next minute McRitchie and Craik replaced Farmer
and Morrison. Both Culter's substitutes had an immediate chance to score
when Stewart cut the ball across the Turriff goalmouth, was just missed by "Toastie"
and Craik's try was deflected past for a corner. Henderson's 81st minute
shot went closely over the crossbar. Calder was booked for dissent in 85
minutes. At this stage a Stewart corner eventually broke back to him and he
hit the ball into the net but the Referee blew for an infringement. In 86
minutes a Calder try was deflected past. In the last minute Goalkeeper Will,
normally so reliable, inexplicably dropped the ball and CRAIK accepted the
gift opportunity to score from a tight angle. At this last gasp stage Smith
was fielded as substitute for Calder. Culter were jubilant on hearing
Referee Robertson’s final whistle after gaining this late, late winner. A
welcome Superleague win.
