Culter sailed into the next round of the Inter Regional Cup against
Whitehills who must be admired for keeping going in Junior circles but for
how long? The match itself was a complete procession with Pirie in the
Culter goal a virtual spectator.
Culter started quickly and were two up with less than 10 minutes on the
clock through McRitchie then skipper Rattray. Soon after, Shand got his name
on the score sheet with a spectacular effort from outside the box. McRitchie
should have added to his tally in the 18th minute but he pushed the ball
wide of Duguid and past the post. Surprisingly `Hills had a half chance from
Lemanski in the 19th minute but Rattray steered the ball out for a corner.
The visitors went further ahead from the spot when Ord was felled in the box
and Calder stepped up to side foot the ball home. The Deesiders should have
gone five up moments later when Calder was presented with three bites of the
cherry but Duguid managed to stop each attempt with various parts of his
body. `Hills were reduced to ten men with half an hour gone when Murray was
red carded for questioning the referee's parentage and his ability to be
truthful. Culter went nap soon after when a thunderbolt from Robertson
following a sweeping move involving Farmer blazed off the post and struck
McRitchie before nestling in the net. McRitchie then combined with Ord but
the burly striker somehow managed to screw the ball past the post. Robertson
and Farmer were operating well down the left flank and the former got his
goal with a devastating shot from just inside the box. With half time
approaching McRitchie got his third when he collected a Farmer pass before
slotting home coolly. McRitchie turned provider a moment later when he set
up Ord to collect his first of the afternoon.
Cu(ter replaced Farmer with Glass at the start of the second period but it
was Ord who should have increased the lead but Duguid pulled off a fine
stop. The pressure was incessant at this stage with Culter running rings
round the coasters without actually threatening too much. Culter sent on
Thain and Sim for Collie and McRitchie as the target practice continued and
Glass made
it nine when his powerful low drive sneaked under the keeper and into the
net. Scott then score his first competitive goal for Culter following some
neat interplay with Ord before Shand got his second after picking up a Glass
cross. In the one way traffic Sim, operating on the right, swung in
a perfect cross for Shand who bulleted a header into the roof of the net.
Morrison then set up Shand but his shot was blocked but Ord was on hand to
tap the ball home. Moments later the deluge continued when Shand set up Ord
as the flood gates continued to be breached. Ord completed his four timer
when again he combined with Shand before simply tapping home. It was shooty
in at this stage and Shand equalled Culter's junior record with number 16
after some
intricate lead up play. The record did not last long when Calder was axed in
the area and Sim was given the ball and he made an immaculate job from the
spot.
