Hive Stung & Wilson's Walloped

Soccer World Super League

Stonehaven 0 Culter 1 HT 0-0

Culter 3 Wilson's XI 1 HT 1-0

After their poor showing in the opening league fixture Culter got back on track taking six points with good wins against Hive and Wilson's. In the game against Wilson's Culter gave a start to new signing Martin Shand son of former player Graham who joined the club in 1977 from local rivals Maryculter.

Stonehaven v Culter Wednesday 24th August

Culter fielded a changed team after the defeat by Formartine but it took a goal of real quality by Neil McRitchie to seal all three points. `Hive were poor but Culter missed a series of good chances with the home keeper performing heroics.

Culter started well and won a barrowload of comers early on and twice the ball was cleared off the line. Scott then combined with Craik who sent in a decent shot which Stubbs did well to save. With ten minutes on the clock Cameron found Glass but his header was deflected out for a comer. From the resultant kick Cameron's effort was booted off the line by Low. Minutes later a dangerous Glass cross was touched behind for a corner by Stubbs. Ord, leading the line, then tried his luck after a great turn in the box but once again Stubbs excelled to deny the striker. There was controversy in the 39`" minute when Christie of Culter was red carded for apparently using his elbows. No one in the crowd saw the incident and Christie vehemently protested his innocence but to no avail.

Culter brought on McRitchie and Calder for Glass and Stewart at the start of the second period but it was `Hive who won their 1 comer of the match in the 48"' minute. At the other end Craik let Cameron in but he blasted just over. McRitchie then fed Ord with a fine ball but his effort was again blocked. The Deesiders took the lead in fine style with 60 minutes gone when Craik found McRitchie in the area and he wasted no time in flashing a stunning volley into the net. Moments later Hive had their first shot on goal but Blacklaw pulled his effort wide. Culter continued to dominate but failed to add to their tally but it was a fine second half display from the ten men.

Culter v Wilson's XI  Saturday 27th August

Culter were first out of the traps when Greig found Shand but his effort was blocked before Calder had a fine effort saved by Irvine. Wilson's then pushed forward when Dillon had a shot saved by Pirie. In the 8th minute Rattray got a header on target from a Robertson free lick but Irvine saved. Culter looked to have gone ahead in the 11t' minute when a Robertson comer was headed powerfully goalwards by Cameron but the keeper pushed the try onto the bar. At the other end a sloppy pass by Greig let Dilton away and he fed Cruickshank but Pirie was alert to the danger and saved easily. With half an hour gone Ord almost opened his account but his looping header ended up on the roof of the net. Ord then turned provider when he fed Robertson but Irvine pulled off a 1s' class save. With half time approaching rapidly Culter went in front when skipper Rattray met a fine Roberson comer and his header bulteted into the net.

Culter came out sprightly at the start of the second period when Cameron chased down a Greig header but Sievwright recovered to send the ball out for a corner. Minutes later Christie tried to get in on the act but his drive following a good turn crept over the bar. Farmer then replaced Shand and he was almost rewarded when his blistering free kick flashed wide. Cameron then burst through again but Irvine saved well. Smith then came on for Ord as the Deesiders sought to build on their lead and they were rewarded when Scott touched the ball to Farmer in the box and he blazed a left footer high into the net off the keeper's hands. Minutes later Culter were on easy street when Cameron and Robertson set up Farmer who had the simplest of tasks to tap the ball home. Wilson's got a consolation deep into injury time when Dillon steered a free kick round the wall and into the net.

Culter: Pirie, Collie, Greig, Calder, Rattray, Scott, Shand, Cameron, Ord, Christie, Robertson. Subs: farmer, Smith, Allan, Glass, Craik.
