Dyce 4 Culter 2
Lewis United 1 Culter 2
Dyce Match - Tuesday 2nd August
Cutter's campaign got off to a poor start when they went down heavily to
their lower league rivals.
Cutter got off to a flier when Chris Collie fluked an attempted long ball
into the net Dyce fought
back and were on level terms before the interval then just ahead of the
break they went in front
from the penalty spot. The unfancied Dyce team went a further two up before
Murray Rattray got
one back near the end. Cutter pressurised late on but failed to make their
pressure pay handing
Dyce a deserved victory.
Lewis United match - Saturday 6th August
In their first visit to Chris Anderson Stadium for quite a while Culter came
away with the points
courtesy of a double from loan signing Colin Robertson. it was interesting
to note that the sons of
two former Culter players, Graeme Galashan and Stevie Murison, both started
for the home side.
In somewhat windy conditions United started well but Cowie shot well over
from just outside the area.
Culter gradually came back into it and a clever ball from Smith found Ord
but his lob drifted fractionally wide. Moments later Morrison crossed for
McRitchie who jinked in the box before bringing out a decent save from
Carbry in the United goal. Ord then chased down a fifty fifty ball with
keeper but came off second best. Culter had a lucky escape on the half hour
mark when Murison squeezed in a shot which hit the :post and Rattray had to
thrash the ball away to safety. A couple of minutes later Ord picked out
McRitchie, with a free kick but his parting shot was deflected for a comer.
New signing Kyle Scott was beginning to dominate the midfield and he picked
out Morrison with a great ball but the recipient could only sclaff wide from
good position: Scott then found Ord who fed McRitchie who had a decent
attempt saved at the cost of a comer. From the resultant flag kick by Craik
in the 36th minute Robertson stole into the box and sent a powerful grounder
beyond the keeper and into the net United got back into it with five minutes
of the half remaining Nelson scurried free before setting up Fleming who
sneaked the ball past
Pirie and into the net.
There was a delay at the start of the second period as the referee decided
that one of the nets needed repairing but the action soon got underway and
McRitchie found himself all alone in the box but he could only slice the
ball wide with the goal at his mercy. Smith then decided to try and show his
forwards what to do when he sent in a screamer which whistled just past the
upright Allan then sent Scott away but his shot once again failed to find
the target At the other end Fleming went on a swingeing run and Thain had to
halt him with a marvellous last gasp tackle. Cuiter had a lucky escape in
the 15 minute of the half when Fleming went down in the box but the referee
waved away the penalty appeals. Culter went two up in the 63rd minute when
Ord sent Robertson free on the left and he somehow managed to squeeze the
ball into the net from the tightest of angles. Culter then sent on Danny
Milne for McRitchie and minutes later Cameron and Stewart replaced Oni and
Morrison. The game seemed to peter out although it was never
what could be called a classic but Thain again came to the rescue (ate on
when he cleared the ball off the line.
Culter: Pirie, Thain, Allan, Smith, Rattray, Robertson, Morrison, Scott,
McRitchie, Ord, Craik.
Subs: Stewart, Cameron, Christie, Milne, Glass, Sim.
Once again results have gone Culter's way and despite the reverse at Dyce
they
still have a chance of qualifying from the section. If they win their
remaining
games and score a barrow load of goals then they will progress to the semi
finals.

Culter's longest serving Committee Members, Alexander J Irvine, has
resigned. Alex has given the Club outstanding service in a variety of roles
since joining us in 1970 as a Player. He was Team Captain, Team Manager,
Trainer Coach and had a number of different duties on the Committee. Alex
was Player of the Year in 1972/73 and won the Dick Brown Memorial Trophy in
1978/79. Alex will continue to support the team and will help the Club out
if and when necessary. We thank him for his exceptional past services and
look forward to his continued support.
Peterhead Pair. We are pleased to welcome two players on loan from
Peterhead FC - Danny Milne and Colin Robertson. Colin scored both our goals
yesterday against Parkvale whilst Danny came on as substitute in the latter
stages of the game.
