Culter were humbled by a vastly experienced Lochee side who looked very
impressive especially in the second period when they took the Deesiders to
the cleaners. Time and again the
Dundee men strolled past the normally resolute Culter defence.
The early exchanges saw the Deesiders win two comers which came to nothing
but it was Lochee who had the first real opportunity but McMillan missed
from close range. Rattray then came to the rescue when he cleared off the
line from a Hagen
attempt. New signing Dave Glass showed some real skill when he picked out
Stewart but his cross was easily taken by Ross in the Lochee goal. Stewart
then skipped past his marker and Ross gathered his attempted back post cross
at the second attempt. Lochee were beginning to turn the screw at this stage
and Calder was on hand to clear off the line from a Cargill try. Glass
however gave the home side a glimmer of hope but his whistling drive flew
wide. The Dundee side opened the scoring in the 38th
minute when Holt sent a screamer beyond Pirie and into the top corner. Glass
almost got the equaliser near the break but his curling drive went just
over.
Culter were two down within a minute of the restart when Blackness sent a
low drive past- Pirie. Minutes later Lochee were on easy street when Cargill
made it three when he waltzed through the static Culter rearguard. Morrison
then came on for Thain but it was Lochee who added to their tally when
McMillan added a fourth. The rout was completed near the end when Holt
netted from a tight angle.
