Soccer World Super League:-

Glentanar 1 Culter 1

Scorers Glentanar ,Law 67 Culter, Collie 57

Culter completed their Super League campaign with a draw over nearest rivals Glentanar at Woodside on Tuesday 24th of May. The champions retained their title with a points total of 61 which put them 4 ahead of Glentanar. In league games this season the Deesiders scored 70 goals in 26 games for the loss of 21. The actual match was a fairly quiet affair, despite the hype, but the large crowd had plenty to cheer with chances aplenty. The early action was confined to the middle of the park until Christie of Glens found A. Campbell but he blasted well wide from long range. At the other end Collie had an opportunity in the 6" minute but his effort whizzed just past. Moments later the home side had a golden chance when a long S. Campbell throw in was headed wide by the unmarked A. Campbell. Allan then sent Davidson scurrying up the line for Culter but McHattie recovered to send the ball out for a comer. The Woodside outfit then began to dominate possession and the impressive Law stole the ball from Thain before sending a deep ball to C. Fraser but incredibly he headed wide with the goal at his mercy. This seemed to wake up the champs with Cameron darting free on the right and his swinging cross was met by Davidson who was unfortunate to head the ball against the post, in the 20" minute, with Riches beaten. Minutes later a speculative try by Law evaded Pine but smacked off the bar and out for a goal kick. Play was now swinging from end to end and Allan sent in a good free kick which Ord headed back across goal but the ball was booted to safety. Christie of Culter then created a chance for Smith who shuffled on the edge of the area before sending in an accurate shot that Riches did well to save. The home side then carved out a couple of openings and from the first C. Fraser headed over and moments later Cooper headed wide. In the last minute of the half Cameron went racing free but his parting shot shaved the post. Culter replaced Christie with Calder at the start of the second half but it was Law of Glens who had the first opening but he shot well wide. Davidson was then involved in a chase with Riches for a long ball and the keeper came out on top when he booted clear for a throw in. Culter almost took the lead in the 53d minute when a dipping Smith volley was deflected over from a corner. The visitors did take the lead two minutes later when a surprised COLLIE found himself in acres of space on the right and he ambled forward before eventually deciding to shoot for goal and his low effort went under Riches and into the back of the net. This was Collie's last involvement as he was immediately replaced by Stewart and the substitute went scampering along the box before being dumped to the ground by A. Campbell. With sixty-seven minutes gone Glens equalised when LAW was allowed to run across the area before sending a deft left foot shot into the corner of the net. Glens then sent on two sets of subs before C. Fraser was yellowed for diving in the Culter penalty area. With 15 minutes remaining D. Fraser who had come on earlier for Glens spumed a terrific chance when he missed badly from close range. Davidson then went off for Adam as Culter tried for all three points and almost snuck a goal when a great Cowell run let in top scorer Cameron but Riches produced a smart save. Skipper Rattray almost did the trick in the 40" minute but his powerful header from an Adam corner fizzled just over. In the last few minutes Glens laid siege to the Culter goal but the champions held firm thanks in part to an acrobatic save from Pirie from a long range Christie try. Culter: Pirie, Thain, Allan, Cowell, Rattray, Smith, Collie, Ord, Cameron, Christie, Davidson. Subs: Calder, Stewart, Adam, Craik, Greig. Referee: C. Sim
