Soccer World Super League  Culter 2 Turriff United 1 H-T 0-1

Scorers: Culter : Bruce Smith 58, Colin Craik 80.

Turriff United : Leigh Henderson 30

Culter retained the Soccer World Super League with a fighting performance over contenders Turriff United who lead for much of the match. With Glentanar getting beat against Sunnybank the Deesiders were presented with the trophy after the final whistle at Crombie Park. Jubilation hardly describes the post match celebrations as the final game against Glentanar is now meaningless in terms of the record books.

Culter started well but Chrisiie headed wide from a Craik free kick in the 2nd minute. Moments later Greig got his head to a ball from Craig but Will was well placed to save the attempt. Culter certainly looked in the mood at this stage and a great turn in the box from Cameron resulted in Will saving at full stretch. With 14 minutes on the clock the home side produced a move of real quality when Greig and Christie combined to set up Stewart who slung in a great cross for McRitchie who headed just over. The first meaningful attack from Turriff came in the 19th minute when Wright tried his luck from long range but Pirie held his effort easily. Out of the blue the visitors took the lead following slack play in the middle of the park from Culter and Lobban capitalised by setting up HENDERSON who slammed the ball past Pirie to establish an ill deserved lead. A few minutes later Culter should have equalised when Stewart found McRitchie but his spinning shot crept just past the post. McRitchie almost atoned minutes later but his powerful effort was booted off the line by Massie at the expense of a comer. The Deesiders kept on pressing and Christie almost pulled the advantage back before half time but he found the side netting from a Stewart corner.

The second period started in the same vein with Culter on the ascendancy but they did not look like troubling Will too much until McRitchie spurned a chance from a Greig cross with Will looking unprotected. Culter finally got back into it in the 57th minute when Stewart released Calder who sent in a swinging cross and SMITH arrived to send a ,terrific header into the back of the net. The news was beginning to filter through that Glentanar were down 2-0 at this stage and the home side upped their game again to try and eke out a win but despite numerous opportunities nothing was forthcoming. With the minutes ticking down Culter were handed the win their play richly deserved when CRAIK proved to be the title winner when he poked the ball home following an almighty scramble in the penalty area.
